i am.
they don't even have a fan in ds2 classroom and they have to play outside for 45 minutes at lunch time.
last night ds2 had a really bad sweat rash which had calmed down by morning but he actually woke in the night and said he was COLD ! how???

strangely though ds1 really wants to stay later at school tonight until 6pm for a computer club!

Thankfully our headmaster is very much the "get on with it" type. That isn't to say he isn't caring and aware of potential problems, but he certainly wouldn't close the school or cancel sports day. They have to take in two bottles of water and sun hats/cream every day at the moment and in the winter they have to leave a pair of wellies and a hooded waterproof in their cloakroom every day so they can still play outside when it rains. And I do agree with him, you can't wrap them up in cotton wool.

Why didn't they just keep them indoors then Mercy?

I have to agree with sandyballs. My kids are actually loving this weather and the feeling of freedom for not having to wear many clothes! (actually I was reflecting on how cultural the perception of the weather is, because to me, coming from a country with long and hot summers, the heat is not that terrible, but you should see me whenever it gets really windy and cold, while most of the english people seem v. blase' about it....)

I have no idea, my dd doesn't even go the school I was referring to. Her school was open all day.

tbh I'd hate to be a teacher cooped up indoors all day with 30 kids whatever the weather, but especially in this heat! Nightmare!

This will be dds 3rd day off this school year. The school playground has no shade.

Mercy I think the head of that school should be contacting the Met Office as it will have broken the highest UK temp.... Am starting to be slightly cynical about some of the temps being bandied about on MN.

the reason i considered keeping ds off was that i don't feel the school are doing enough for the kids in this hot weather.

they have to play out and there is no shade

no fan or anything in the classroom like we would have at home.

they have to wear a uniform

they can get water from a drinking fountain but teachers don't make sure they ARE actually keeping hydrated.

they aren't learning anything much as far as i can tell .

I am tempted to keep ds off. dd school is good:
water fountains,
water bottles in class,
shade in the playground, mixture of trees and a lovely wooden gazebo
no hat - no play rules.
Told not to run around, and to wear and bring in suncream
teacher is very careful about keeping them out of sun, even at pickign up time
classes are being held out of doors in the shade of huge trees

ds school is crap. They have one farty little paddling pool and no precautions. He has come home with a burnt face, because he sun lotion has been washed off. Plus I have to drag all the kids into a car with no air con to ferry them back and forth to his school on the other side of town. I don't blame parents for wanting tokeep kids home.
