Feeling a bit dense so please bear with me... DS2 has only just started walking - still at the very wobbly, part walk/part crawl stage so obviously not ready for shoes.

But having older siblings obviously wants to be out of buggy joining in, also in the garden, we have lots of clover and lots of bees - bit worried he might stand on one! Is there such a thing as shoes that they can wear before they start walking properly. Dont want to walk into a shoe shop and look silly for asking!!

lots of shops do soft soled prewalker shoes so they are ideal.

Squarer · 19/07/2006 09:26

Yes if you really feel the need to part with £18, Clarks have cruisers. In the unlikely event he is a 5H, I have a pair you can have!
I bought mine as it was winter so he needed something on his feet to keep them warm, and he slipped over on my wooden floors in everything else. He is currently running round barefoot in the garden as we speak though!

Squarer · 19/07/2006 09:27

Thats a point CT - if there isn't a slipping issue (I assume you don't have wooden floors outside??? ) he could wear any of the pre-walkers really (if he doesn't have flippers for feet like mine does!)

£18 for shoes that arent 'shoes'!!!??

So, whats the verdict then? Are they worth buying or not. Holiday looming - will I need them, do I need them? If I shove his feet in these pre-walker things will he find it more difficult to get to grips with walking? Advice very welcome.

if you don't want to fork out a fortune for prewalkers how about some soft jellies from somewhere like mothercare. They are very supple, and would prob be fine for occassional use.

CaptainFlameSparrow · 19/07/2006 09:34

5H!!!!

I am normally anti shoes on wobbly baby, but I think with the holday coming as well the cruiser ones would give him that extra protection more than cloth ones.

curtaintwitcher · 19/07/2006 09:34

poppiesonline..I got dd a pair of clarks crawlers last week in the sale for £6 so might be worth a look.

poppiesinaline · 19/07/2006 09:39

£6 !!!! bargain!

by the sounds of it I probably do need to put something on his feet for protection don't I? drats. I'll have to take a sneaky peek at the sales and I hope I am as lucky as curtaintwitcher.

I should probably point out that he was a late walker CFS! (In addition to being part dolphin)

They are hugely expensive Poppies, although if you can get a pair for £6 like CT you'll be laughing

CaptainFlameSparrow · 19/07/2006 09:42

pmsl @ part dolphin!

kiskidee · 19/07/2006 09:43

here is where some of the coolest foot gear exist. my dd is still in them at 15 months. an uncle who worked in children's shoe design said she needed nothing else at the moment.

can't see why my links won't work today

Next do nice soft pre-walkers - they're less than a tenner, think you can get some of the plainer ones for about £5.99.

poppiesinaline · 19/07/2006 11:08

ahhh kiskidee... those are gorgeous. About the same prices as Clarks though but look much softer.

Will have a nose in Next too. Thanks everyone. Very helpful.
