It depends on who you are running it for.

As far as I am aware there is no legal requirement for anyone to hold a particular qualification. However, most of these courses are run by local NHS Trusts, Sure Starts or Social Services and they would probably require some sort of qualifications. For example Clare Halsey who runs the PPP courses on that new TV programme is a child psychologist working for Sure Start so she would hold the relevant qualifications.

I run them and have quals and experience. Wouldn't do it without unless running a course with someone else's material.

Although there are many reasons for not being able to spell properly such as dyslexia and in an ideal and fair world this might not matter I think most parents would prefer that their tutor could spell correctly.

You need to be conscientious to run a course and make a success of it - there are facilities for checking spelling.

Actually nannyme, I employ a teacher who can not spell to save his life (he is dyslexic). His appalling spelling and sentence construction make no difference whatsoever to his subject knowledge although I do re-write his reports if there are galring errors.

I said prefer and I am pretty sure that parents would baulk at a flyer for a parenting course that stated:

"qualified and expereanced tutor"

Maybe it would be okay if it said

"dyslexic, qualified, expereanced tutor"

???
If you are doing it for free then maybe parents would care less...

julienetmum · 19/07/2006 14:08

But JoFeb04 has not produced a flyer stating that has she, for all we know she is checking out something she has seen advertised.

This was a question asked on a forum, not a flyer/essay/handout to be scrutinised.

nannyme · 19/07/2006 14:13

No, but just pointing out how worthwhile it is to check this kind of thing in case OP was thinking of running one.

Don't have a particular bee in my bonnet about spelling but having just produced my latest set of leaflets the checking and re-checking/importance of is at the forefront of my mind.

I put my own phone number on some work pamphlets I produced once. Very embarrassingly stupid.

Professionalism is vital. This is relevant whether the course leader or potential delegate.

julienetmum · 19/07/2006 14:23

Of course, which is why my dh went up the wall and down again with a newspaper when they printed his name wrong on an advert.

I try and check everything that goes out but because whe I am on here I am usually typing so fast, there can be lots of errors in my posts.

Why do you ask jofeb04 are you thinking of attending one or running one? I attened a parent network course and you had the opportunity to run one with some extra training.Using their teaching
