I'm going back to work soon and will need to be really organised if I am to remain sane and continue to enjoy my time with ds.

any tips on how to cut down on the time I seem to spend doing those necessary but dull household/life tasks? I'm sure there are some corkers out there - help me out please!

Oh my god. I want a cleaner and a tumble dryer. It's not fair (stomps off to sulk)

Clarinet60 · 01/03/2004 22:33

I haven't got a tumble dryer, because my last one started smoking, so now I don't trust them. I'll just have to keep folding. Do I take them off the airer and put them, folded, on the radiators? Do I have to keep faffing about and refolding?

I'm glad you pointed that out Wiltshire - my dh thinks I'm mad because I won't put on the washing machine, tumble drier or dishwasher either over night or when we are going out...for that very reason (fire risk)

I would never never describe myself as an organised mum, quite the opposite, but I have recently started giving my ironing to a local firm who come and pick it up and drop it off. It costs 8 quid per hour and its the best money I've ever spent. I never ever got round to ironing - I've 2 under 4 am pgnant and work p/t. The piles of ironing where threatening to take over the house - to get it down initially cost me 30 quid, but now a normal batch costs around 10 per week. I can't afford a cleaner, but this is my one treat, and its really worth it..........

Droile, if you hang clothes with neurotic accuracy they look sort of badly ironed anyway.

Demented · 02/03/2004 16:19

My goodness Droile, how many a day? That's an expensive habit for a tumble dryer!

Angeliz · 02/03/2004 16:22

LOL Demented

Kayleigh · 02/03/2004 16:22

My last tubmble dryer ran off with the au-pair. You're right not to trust them Droile

nutcracker · 02/03/2004 16:25

I registered with Flylady yesterday and have had over 15 emails off them today.

Lazyeye - That is what i need to do. Me and iroing just don't get on. I would love to pay someone to do it, but dp thinks it's a waste of money. I have 2 big baskets full at the mo and more to come. I just can't keep up with it, and i don't even work. How much is a 'normal' batch though ???? How much would a basket load cost ???

Clarinet60 · 02/03/2004 16:58

He thinks it's a waste of money, does he? Hmm. Does he think that enough to actually do any himself??!!!!!

Demented 60 a day!

I did have the ironing done professionally about 18 months ago, but I had to load it all up and lug it there myself, so it got to be a faff. I'll have to try and find someone to collect.

Someone posted a while ago about loads of fires being started by appliances left on overnight. Who was it?

Clarinet60 · 02/03/2004 16:59

Kayleigh. I'm tempted to get an au pair just to see if the inevitable might happen, tee hee...

At £6 an hour as a working mum I find a cleaner a necessity rather than a luxury. i am in no way well off but would rather go without new boots and clothes each month or whatever than loose my cleaner.

I sit Lottie in the kitchen with toys and books and dance and act mad with her while I get evening meal organised.

Do food shopping in my lunch hour.

When i put her in her pj's I get tomorrows outfit out and ready.

While I'm waitng for dinner to cook or inbetwwen stirring things etc i get Lotties lunch and tea organised and put all togerther with deserts etc in fridge and put dry food / snaks in her lunch bag.

I don't do ironing, noone does, if it needs ironing it doesn't really get worn and then I'll leave a pile for the cleaner!

I don't waer make-up and I have breakfast at work.

Sometimes I get her breakfast stuff laid out as much as poss the night before.

I do what Becca does re food and shopping, write whatr we're having every night and then prepare shopping list and get it done over weekend or Monday lunchtime.
Basically every morning and for first part of getting home I do a good impression of a tornado but it's fine and works well and I spend from about 8.30 until 12 dpoing nothing but chilling out and drinking wine

bossykate · 02/03/2004 18:07

i agree, thomcat, i'd do the shopping at lidl, get rid of the mobile, never buy clothes etc - before giving up the cleaner.
