Sex & The City: Does it divide men and women?

An article in The Observer (I think, might have been S.Times) recently said that Sex & The City divided the sexes since women generally love it and men hate it.

My sister says that her husband hates it because it's about "a bunch of shallow vain women" (I wouldn't argue with that but I still like it) and 'polices' her laughter slightly - i.e she'd better not find the jokes about impotence/penis size/whatever TOO funny. My dp loves it and watches with me: what are other people's dh/dps like?

Sorry to change subject, but Bundle, have you found your papers yet, which prove a link between no pain killers during childbirth and distress in the baby. Iam interested if there is such a link.

I love SITC, don't really watch that much TV but definitely watch this with partner who also laughs out loud. It's lighthearted and I've held a torch for Aidan forever so added bonus that he's back in it (can remember him from Northern Exposure, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!).

I always feel a bit guilty about watching sex in the city for some reason so I have made it my "puree fifteen ounds of fruit and veg" time for ds, so i feel like I am doing a penance or something while I am watching it. This is the first series that I have watched and I only began to after loads of friends went on and on about it - I don't think that it's great, but it's certainly watchable! My dh won't watch it at all, but then he used to be like that about Friends, so you never know.

Just thought I'd add after last nights espisode: Is Carrie Mad? Getting rid of Aidan? And I don't remember farting that much in pregancy!

I agree - one minute she's desparate to have Aidan back and then she's freaking out when he wants to get married. No wonder she got a rash trying on THAT dodgy dress but then her fashion sense has gone a bit loopy recently. I'm sad Aidan wont be in it anymore cos there's just something about him that makes me go phoar!!! He has an incredibly sexy voice and look.....sorry have to sign off. Think I need to lie down!!!

I think Big is a generic term for the type of man he is. It's possibly clearer in the book.

As for the farting I did feel fairly windy but one day at yoga we were all doing our relaxation and unfortunately for me it was a busy class and at the wrong moment I turned over and the woman next to me pooped right in my face eugh!!!!

Lizzer · 28/02/2002 16:23

Yeah, too many plot twists to be realsistic really, I would certainly have Aidan and his marriage proposal any day

Bee · 28/02/2002 16:28

Yep, me too. And also the chance to spend that much on shoes ! What was it, something like $40,000 on them?????? Actually I think that's bordering on the gross, but I wouldn't mind trying!

Pupuce · 28/02/2002 17:09

In their defence.... it looks like between the "getting Aidan back" and the split there was a few months if we can judge it by the state of Miranda's pregnancy !

Ailsa · 28/02/2002 20:20

BRING BACK AIDAN!!!

Tinker · 28/02/2002 22:38

Oh, I know - Aidan was gorgeous! Where are these hunky carpenters? In real life he says he's never monogamous - instantly make him 100 times more attractive, unfortunately.

WideWebWitch · 01/03/2002 01:01

Just have to add here that I watched 17, yes 17 episodes of S&TC yesterday (including the 2 on tv) since I bought a box set of S&TC videos and ds is away. So, a Pizza Express American Hot pizza, a bottle of Chianti and a packet of cigarettes later I emerged. What I felt was:

*envious that they all look the way they do, no undereye bags, toned bodies, fab (ok, frankly dodgy occasionally) clothes, great shoes, all skinny (except Miranda in recent episodes)

  • V. jealous that they are all such great friends and are so close and have so much time to sit around chatting about life and love

  • Irritated that they are all such silly tarts sometimes, see below re Carrie and Aidan, see Charlotte's Pollyanna tendencies...

Sorry if this isn't that interesting but it's late, I've finished watching all 4 tapes now and I'm a sad, bitter, bored woman!

And I know it's not real...

Does anyone else find Richard, Samantha's boyfriend, really sexy? Bit worried about this as he's obviously quite smarmy but found him strangely smouldering as well. Reminded me of Robbie Robertson who is deeply gorgeous.

bozzy · 10/01/2003 03:31

My DH absolutely loves watching SITC - we do have very similar senses of humour and he always watches it with me when he's around.

WideWebWitch · 10/01/2003 09:35

Tinker, I'm with you on Richard being sexy. Not sure I'd trust him though. Charlotte doing the tongue thing when talking about him was funny...

Enid · 10/01/2003 09:39

Dp and I still both love it ('the clothes! The shoes! The restaurants!' ) and I do think Richard is quite sexy.

forest · 10/01/2003 17:01

You like the clothes?? Personally I think they are hideous but I love the programme.

jessi · 10/01/2003 18:50

I don't find him sexy at all, and I normally love the clothes but SJP looked really odd last night in her ensembles! Dh loves it by the way too.

willow2 · 10/01/2003 18:57

Clothes - yes.
Richard - no.
