Is it purely a coincidence that the Minister who says on the lunchtime news that he hasn't "been shown" any transcripts of Kofi Annan's conversations is Blunko? Only he wouldn't know, would he?

OK you've made me splutter my tea all over the keyboard.

Of course they spied on him. Am going to enjoy watching the squirming over this one.....

dinosaur · 27/02/2004 15:59

moi aussi

Clarinet60 · 27/02/2004 18:34

Ha Ha! Personally, I think it's obvious that Clare Short is too shrewd to lie about this one. I hope she collected some good evidence on other issues before she left.

And now Richard Butler, Hans Blix
One thought that wandered through my mind was that perhaps LOL TB wanted to be sure the US weren't tryign to pull off a double deal, which would leave him with egg on face per se...
But I am not surprised at any of it really...
And I should think this is the least of what CS knows... She has been extensively involved in many many foreign issues...
Hmmm odds on TB leading Labour into next election?
Wonder who his replacement would be...

Janh · 27/02/2004 22:00

GB?

The mind just boggles though, just how paranoid were/ARE the USA to think they need to bug the UN and Kofi Anaan?? I can understand spying on other delegates to the UN, but Kofi is Mr. Open. If you wanted to know what someone said to Kofi Annan or what he thought about something, you only have to ask the man! Only the USA didn't dare do it themselves, so persuaded the Brits to -- and why? Why would the Brits do this? Why did the Brits go along with it; how could it possibly serve British interests? Am I overlooking something obvious, or does it only come back to paranoid, convulated conspiracies about the real purpose of the UN, which are popular among the right-wing zealot weirdos in the USA????

kiwisbird · 27/02/2004 22:24

You sure have to wonder, the Uk and Europe in general has always worked well alongside the UN, its always been the US that had been suspicious and mistrustful of the UN, so it reeks of duplicity...
Not sure about GB for next PM... Def not Prescot, wondering what else might turn up, reckon Robin Cook would have a go if it ever got to a leadership battle...

Lisa78 · 27/02/2004 22:24

Cos USA think they are the worlds police maybe?

Janh · 27/02/2004 22:30

Not Robin Cook, he doesn't speak English!

OP posts:
susanmt · 27/02/2004 22:31

I like Kofi Annan, but he doesn't have as good a name as Bhoutros Bhoutros Ghali!!

Janh · 27/02/2004 22:32

But he was the orginal for the Tariq Aziz joke in 1998 (?)

When does Kofi have his coffee?
When Tariq Aziz!

(Sorry!)

I really don't like Robin Cook. GB lacks charisma, although I think he's brill as chancellor. I have always predicted the War in Iraq would bring TB down, one way or another.

Tortington · 28/02/2004 17:10

trez bizarly hubby was talking abut this with his mates whilst playing darts ( didnt realise men surpassed anything other than neolithic when out with friends ..anyway) DH says she signed official secrets act so they should hancuf her and take her away for trial

erm... i agree actually or whats the point in signing anything?

that being said.... i like clare short

Janh · 29/02/2004 00:03
