My ds loves Peter Pan and was obsessed with it for ages. He has a blue and white striped 'Pirate top - like Smee!' of which he is very proud, and I cut the top of a plastic coathanger to make him his own hook. So I won't hear a word against it

You know I was only thinking this morning that DS1 would be ready for Peter Pan, he would love it.

Did you happen to notice how long the promotion is on for Twig?

You're right about "Never smile at a crocodile" missing lyrics in the movie. I was disappointed too. Kids love that song, so it's a shame they were omitted (or not invented at the time)?

I watched Peter Pan SO much when ds was in the age range of 2.5-3.5 that I found I started to deconstruct the movie and probably could have written an academic paper on it. In fact, one day, while breastfeeding dd, I suddenly realized that the father=captain hook. I announced my findings to some visitors who had popped round while I'd had my epiphany, thinking they'd share my excitement, but they were completely unimpressed. As well they should have been.

I actually read the original play - and the film is surprisingly faithful to it considering. Though Peter is a real boy who can fly, not a pixie. I found it terribly touching (much more so than the film) but still find myself feeling a lump in my throat when Mr & Mrs Darling see the ship in the sky and he dimly remembers it from his own childhood.

All together now...

"Never smile at a crocodile.
No, you can't get friendly with a crocodile.
Don't be taken in by his welcome grin.
He's imagining how well you'd fit within his skin.
Never smile at a crocodile.
Never dip your hat and stop to talk awhile.
Never run, walk away, say good-night, not good-day.
Clear the aisle but never smile at Mister Crocodile."

If it's any consolation, twiglett, the words can be found with music here and with a bit of an explanation here . Not the same though, is it?

suzywong · 27/02/2004 14:13

thanks twiglett
but just found it 'rare and sealed' on e-bay.

I remember the days when I was rare and sealed.... sigh

I got Monsters Inc and PeterPan on the Disney deal that was advertised on Mumsnet for £10, then flogged MonstersInc on Ebay for almost £10 -- ie., Peter Pan was free. heheehee...

I don't know what you guys are talking about with the 'Never smile at a crocodile' song, though... Is it a British thing????

LOL, Rolfy strikes again, maybe???

tamum · 27/02/2004 18:20

I knew it from a record of Disney songs I had when I was a kid. That link I posted said the song itself (as opposed to the music) never made it into the final version, but it sounds as though it was written for Disney. Not so British, then!

tamum · 27/02/2004 18:20

Oh, and deffo not Australian

hmb · 27/02/2004 18:55

And the royalties still go to the GOSH, which is nice. The law was changed to make sure this continues.
