just to add from jackieno's post - theres a pretty good bus service up the woodstock road to Esporta - probably be there within 20mins of getting off at train station - buses run from outside debs.

Shopping is getting better in Oxford:
borders - music, books, coffee
next clearance and a huge primark in the westgate centre

Not sure where abouts you moving to but the David Lloyd Sports Club on ringroad at Cowley is recommended.

How old are your kids MissChief? There's a place called Rainbow House in the centre of Oxford where you can take under 5s if you want to have a break from shopping/let them play/eat and drink/maybe chat to other parents. Also there's a group called the New Parent Network you can join which holds events and has a newsletter telling you what's going on in the area.

MissChief · 17/07/2006 10:33

thx both - they're school age and baby so the rainbow house wd be good for ds2. Lots to discover, excellent!

Rainbow House is on New Inn Hall St - from 10.30 until 2 on Weds, Thurs and Fri I believe.

It might be worth you getting the book 'Oxford for the Under-Eights', either from local shops or from the New Parent Network direct.

hewlettsdaughter · 17/07/2006 20:19

This site is useful if you want culture! The Pitt Rivers Museum and the Oxford University Museum won the Guardian Family Friendly Museum Award last year.

MissChief · 18/07/2006 09:34

lovely, oxford seems such a civilised, fascinating place to live near! Is it generally oxford folk who attend these groups tho or do they attract from surrounding villages? we're not going to be in oxford itself but about 15 mins away by car/train.

Rainbow House is for anyone with under 5s, AFAIK. It's a drop-in centre - useful if you are shopping and you want a break (not open every day though - the sign only comes out when they're open). You should find the Oxford for Under Eights book useful as it lists things in the centre of Oxford and further afield. It isn't just about toddler groups, but about shops, places to visit in the area etc.

I live in Oxford and have one schoolage child and one aged 2 - happy to give you more info if you need it!

MissChief · 18/07/2006 16:37

thanks, HD, you've been v helpful!

shameless revival of my own thread but wanted to let you all know that we've finally moved and to say thanks again for all yr help!
Love it here, tho strange to be "new" yet again.

Desperate to chuck myself into tons of activities but think i should pace myself as also just gone back to work. Might try out the reading group and pilates, AB so thanks again for all the info! Had 1st night out in Jericho the other nightbut generally won't be Oxford-based as we live a few miles out.
Do any of you ever meet up at all??

Hi MissChief - not sure about meet-ups. I'm in Oxfordshire too, but work, so not generally around during the day. Glad it's going well.

MissChief · 06/09/2006 17:31

thanks, JN. i'm only p/t but find that hard enough to fit round everything.

Ooh - just remembered seeing a thread where Ruty (I think) was hoping to meet up with people in Oxford - not sure if she's around now...

MissChief · 08/09/2006 09:26

thx - ok, might check that out. Just wondering really anyway. Not sure I'm one for RL MN meet-ups particularly.
