Hi,
I bought a Lazytown book for my ds which arrived today. It cost me 3.99gbp plus 2gbp postage.

The seller has only paid 50p for postage - now I know you have to take into account the cost of packing but it's just a standard a4 envelope which wouldn't cost too much. The book itself is much thinner than I expected and on the back covee is a printed on price of $3.99 - about 2.50gbp....

I'm hacked off! I know it's piddling amounts but I can't stand when people make profit on ebay from overcharging postage - when I bid I thought 2 quid was fine but I was expecting a bigger book. What should I do? I haven't left feedback yet.

u knew postage etc when u bought it and its a risk of ebay that u pay more than it cost. nothing u can dom, seller did there bit

Ulysees · 12/07/2006 19:33

Am really shocked! I'd email seller before leaving feedback. Interested to hear others views.

You've been ripped off imo. You could also contact ebay first as they may have had other complaints. Have you checked their feedback?

ScoobyDooooo · 12/07/2006 19:33

I would contact the seller if you are unhappy & just explain why see what they say & go from there

hairymclary · 12/07/2006 19:34

there is nothing you can do IMO unless you return the book, for which you will have to pay postage.
Don't forget to take into account the fact that the seller also has to go and post the thing.
If I want to post something I have to drive into town, pay a minimum of £1.60 for parking and walk about a mile to the post office!
I think there is sometimes more to be considered than just the postage cost and the envelope.

Norah · 12/07/2006 19:37

Sorry to disagree - but the seller hasn 't done anything wrong unless they misrepresented the book - ie. did they lie and say the book was bigger or did you just assume that ?

When you placed your bid you agreed to the postage price - so irritating though it is I think you've just got to admit that you've been "done!" - next time don't assume anything !

southeastastra · 12/07/2006 19:44

if you weren't happy with the postage, you shouldn't bid.

weewilliewinkie · 12/07/2006 19:46

No, the seller didn't lie, I just assumed. Seriously, the book is the size of a comic. It's like a colouring book with really rubbish quality paper and a few stickers.

here's the link

It's not even full colour, btw. So she did lie there.

weewilliewinkie · 12/07/2006 19:46

And I was happy with the postage - I was just expecting more.

contact the seller for a refund? they're a power seller so would probably offer one to keep their feedback

Norah · 12/07/2006 19:49

So you need to email her and just say that you are really disappointed with your purchase - and ask if you can return it for a refund. But you won't get your £2 P&P refunded - best you'll get is cost of comic - and you will have to pay to post it back as well.

I'd put it down to experience !

SaintGeorge · 12/07/2006 19:51

Took me all of 30 seconds to find this

Clearly states the retail price.

Sorry, but if you want to risk ebay purchases, make sure you do your research first.

Ulysees · 12/07/2006 19:52

could price be because item is hard to find?

Ulysees · 12/07/2006 19:53

SG don't they come from the states though? She'd pay extra P&P here?

SaintGeorge · 12/07/2006 19:55

OK - Amazon then

Not difficult to get hold of.

weewilliewinkie · 12/07/2006 19:55

SaintGeorge, I appreciate that - but she described it as a full colour book whereas it's more like a colouring-in comic! I just feel that she was a tad misleading in the description. I'm going to write to her directly - I don't want to leave negative feedback, plus she hasn't left me any yet!

OP posts:
SaintGeorge · 12/07/2006 19:58

My point is it took no time at all to do the research.

If you want to trust a small photo and a description from a total stranger then it is your risk.

If you bother to take those few minutes to check options you would have no need to complain - and you could have got the book cheaper.

Sorry, but I think you have nothing to complain about.

Norah · 12/07/2006 20:01

I agree with SG - Sorry !

weewilliewinkie · 12/07/2006 20:02

I have nothing to complain about?! She described it as a full colour story book, when it's nothing of the sort! It's a crappy little colouring in comic. Forget the postage cost - I don't care about that any more.

And I do know that you can get them elsewhere - I have ordered a couple more from Amazon for a penny each! Now that's more like it!

OP posts:
southeastastra · 12/07/2006 20:03

email the seller and explain, they will probably offer a refund

SoupDragon · 12/07/2006 20:05

Ebay sellers are allowed to charge over the actuall costof postage to cover packing etc. They aren't allowed to charge over the odds for postage if they are using this to up the cost of the item but not pay Ebay fees on it.

SoupDragon · 12/07/2006 20:06

I do think you have reason to complain about the description thoguh.

weewilliewinkie · 12/07/2006 20:08

I've written to her to see what she'll do - at least I know if I have to return it it'll only cost me 50p!

OP posts:
SaintGeorge · 12/07/2006 20:35

My argument about researching your product still stands.

It is described as a colouring book on the NickJr link.

Yes, she mislead you on that point but isn't that the risk you take if buying from a stranger instead of a reputable retailer?

weewilliewinkie · 13/07/2006 06:57

quick update - the seller wrote back apologising, she said she had made an error in the listing which has since been rectified..she offered a full refund. Good enough for me!
