Is a 4x4 (even an urban dwelling one) that is occupied by at least 3 people on every journey better or worse than 3 Corsas with only one person inside?

Would like to point out at this juncture that I don't drive a 4x4. DH has a 4x4 Subaru estate with a beast of an engine and I drive a mid range hatchback.

ok seriously, I don't really like 4x4s either but we had one (and in fact still have a more efficient one that doesn't go) because dh likes doing expeditions. But I would bet that 4x4 v pedestrian accidents are actually less common than other types of car v person accidents just because the visibility is so much better in them (4x4s this is). or at least there would be fewer 4x4 v pedestrian accidents if 4x4 drivers weren't on the whole such a bunch of c++ts.

SenoraPostrophe · 12/07/2006 19:21

but ndp - the pedestrian is statistically 3x more likely to be hit by one of the corsas (ntwithstanding the other factors mentioned in prev post)

Rowlers · 12/07/2006 19:21

4X4s block view of road
4x4s take up too much room in car parks
4X4s are ugly
4X4s would pulverise anyone unlucky enough to be run over by one
4x4s are totally unnecessary in an urban environment
4X4s consume too much NON-RENEWABLE fuel

Can you tell I don't like them?

You could get a car larger than a corsa, most 4x4 only accomodate 4 people anyway. What about a nice estate car with extra seats in the boot. I am a fan of the 4x4 but I am in ruralist Hertfordshire and have been snowed in twice, I couldnt of moved or rescued my dh if I hadnt of had my 4x4. In town I would definately have something more you know, sporty or head turning.

Why not 3 people in a Corsa? They're big enough.

Sorry, I HATE 4 x 4 in the city. I live in London and they area menace.

I think a corsa with one person is better.

Tax the lot of them to the highest degree - sorry but unless you live in the country or a country where the roads are bad I can't see why people want them other than for the status and the apparent safety asect. I read that they are not safe though because people who drive them use their phones more since they think they are safer, plus if you get knockeed down by one of these you are more likely to die (it's like being run over by a bus).

I hate hate hate hate hate them
