the kids haven't messed around with the tuning have they? is it still plugged into the ariel or the set top box or wherever it's signal comes from?

what a bugger!

themoon66 · 12/07/2006 10:15

Don't go poking around in the back coz tellys hold a lot of electricity in the back. An electrician told me they retain power in them for up to 2 days after they've been unplugged.

do you want to buy a 21inch telly?

could be the tube has gone. or the scart has fallen out.

octavia · 12/07/2006 10:23

This happened to us a couple of weeks ago, it was the tube.we are now watching tv via the computer as we can't get another just yet

Probably the power supply to the on/off switch. Usually costs about £20-£40 to repair (oop North anyway)

Usually caused by constant on/off (kids messing?) or by turning on/off at the socket instead of the TV button.

kick it

BettySpaghetti · 12/07/2006 14:37

Check a lead hasn't fallen out the back somewhere (TV/video/set top box etc) -this happened to us once and we spent days thinking the reception was too bad to watch digital but turned out it was a loose lead

Or has someone pressed a button on one of the remote controls? This can sometimes give you a blank screen (DS's favourite trick, this one!)

Actually just to add to custardo's kick it advice. My DS2 (when he was around 2 years old) didn't like what was on the telly, went behind it (I wasn't in the room at the time, IIRC I walked away from him as he was having a big tantrum at not being allowed to watch Cbeebies) and pushed it off the stand and onto the floor (28 inch widescreen, old fashioned type with big back on it so no mean feat) and after we all got over the shock, comforted DS2 who was screaming his head off, tried the telly again and the fall had fixed a problem we were having with a whistling tube!

Not recommended though.
