It's lying on its back on the patio, quivering. Should I do anything?

Leave it; it will probably recover pretty quickly and fly off. We get pigeons do this all the time, and they're never flat out for very long.

Shock
mousiemousie · 10/07/2006 19:16

pigeon did this at my house at the weekend. Weird.

PrettyCandles · 10/07/2006 19:18

It's stopped quivering now. I'll have another look after children are in bed in 20min or so.

PrettyCandles · 10/07/2006 20:24

A wood pigeon did that at our old house. it flapped around on the path and then into the kitchen!!

I shouted for DH to get it out, which he did.
I think it had broken it's neck or something beacsue it was gasping for breathe and then stopping and the gasping...etc etc

It died after about 5 minutes.

Ds2(about 2 or 3yrs old atthe time) went into the shed an got out the footpump for the dingy to give it some more "breathe and bring it back to life".

has yours flown off yet?

LadyTophamHatt · 10/07/2006 20:32

x postd...yes probably dead....

YellowFeathers · 10/07/2006 20:36

They usually end up breaking their necks sadly Either that or the shock.

We had about 3 of them do it this time last year. I had to send dh out of the house before me cos I couldn't cope with seeing the poor things.

You will have to go and have a look and maybe move it to the bushes. It should have recovered by now though so its not a good sign

We have a mummy and baby bird living in our garden, they are lovely but a bit on the noisy side!

PrettyCandles · 10/07/2006 20:39

Sweet ds! And knowledgeable, too.

Ugh, it's years since I had to do this. Used to have to dispose of dead and half-dead animals all the time when I was in my teens, courtesy of our cat. But I've got much more squeamish with age.

Moving it might be a good idea otherwise a Cat will have it.

PrettyCandles · 10/07/2006 21:33

I'm going out now, before it gets any darker.

poor birdy!!

YellowFeathers · 11/07/2006 11:20

What happened PC?

PrettyCandles · 11/07/2006 12:33

The service was very informal: no casket, just an old Kleenex box. Interment in the dustbin. No flowers please, donations to RSPB.
