Love music concerts, comedy and theatre - in the last 18 months these include:
Jack Dee
Lion King
Jamiroquai
Also booked for the summer 'The Gruffalo' and in the process of booking tickets for 'Mary Poppins' for a Christmas treat.
I would love to see Richard Ashcroft tickets were sold out.
Before children I used to go to a gig every other week.

myalias · 10/07/2006 09:51

Also went to see 'Little Britain' which was brilliant.

helsi · 10/07/2006 09:53

Never been to a concert would love to though. I love going to cinema and theatre. We don't really do anything together - apart from cinema once in a blue moon.

He loves his golf.

went to the Wireless festical in Hyde Park the other week to see KT Tunstall (who was magnificent), and also caught David Gray, the Violent Femmes and a lot of new / small bands on the smaller stages - had forgotten how much I like seeing unknown bands up close, and there were some real gems, particularly Red Light Rush, who had brought their mums with them (bless!) and the Weepies, who stopped half way through the set to shout at the sound guy for cocking up their levels, which I was impressed with as too many bands put up with rubbsh production.

I'm getting less and less impressed with big-name bands at big venues, especially when they're all seated. We were given tickets to Oasis in Cardiff and they were all right, but tbh I would have gone to see the support - Foo Fighters and Razorlight - alone.
There was so little atmosphere though, especially compared to the packed small venue where we saw the (frankly weird) Bedouin Soundclash last year.
They're so expensive too - I hate to think how much the Oasis tickets must have been, but the Wireless ones were only £40 and we saw heaps of bands. Our small sweaty local venue is about £8 a pop, which means we see far more new bands whose stuff we haven't heard because £8 is worth the risk!

myalias · 10/07/2006 10:11

I agree Mrsbadger about larger venues not having the atmosphere. I used to manage a record store in Cambridge and would regularly get free tickets to see unknown bands in the local pubs. The atmosphere was brilliant much more intimate being up close and personal.

MrsBadger · 10/07/2006 10:21

I also love seeing how genuinely pleased up-and-coming bands are when audiences respond to them - I remember seeing Snow Patrol at V in 2004 just before they made it big and they were utterly blown away when the crowd started singing Run with them - the singer was completely choked and got all pink and embarrassed, and you could tell it was a moment he was going to save up and tell his grandchildren.

Complete contrast to the higher-up-the-bill Badly Drawn Boy, who talked for a good 10min before playing a note and then got cross because the crown stopped paying attention. Prat.

southeastastra · 10/07/2006 10:30

i used to go to concerts (or gigs) all the time, this year i only saw depeche mode at wembley and the seats were awful. i like seeing bands at small venues, they all seem to play in places too big now, and ticket prices are over the top.

suzywong · 10/07/2006 10:44

Mrs Badger, whas that the festival at Hyde Park with Foo Fighters and Motorhead and Juliette and the Licks?

MrsBadger · 10/07/2006 10:48

think the one we were at was a week later - there were about six different events on different dates using the same set-up.
Would like to see the Foo Fighetrs again though - they were much better than I'd hoped when we saw them last year.

dmo · 10/07/2006 12:26

sounds cool
we always get standing tickets as you can get into the crowd only thing is when they throw their beer on you or even worst wee
razorlight are cool think they were a warm up band for richard ashcroft the other week
true its great to see up and coming bands
there used to be a music festival here in Preston on the park near our house hubby went 10yrs ago our son was 2 weeks old so i stayed at home, shed seven and spice girls were on funny to think of them performing in a park for free

we had bottles of wee thrown past us at Oasis and we were in the civilised seated bit .

but I'd thought this might happen and worn my old coat so didn't care

southeastastra · 10/07/2006 13:06

that reminds me! i went to see the rolling stones at the old wembley stadium, they were just about to start and a girl in front of me just pulled down her pants and weed! it sort of trickled towards us as the pitch was covered in a sort of waterproof rubber. sorry if you're having lunch

dmo · 10/07/2006 13:59

Mrs Badger
The Foos frickin ROCK!

Mmmmmmmm My faves. Have I ever mentioned that I have had dinner with Dave Grohl? Not just me there were others present.

I have never seen the RHCPs, I must say I am struggling with Stadium Arcadium. I think John Fruscianti and RIck Rueben were given too much rope and it is too long. It's Prog Rock and no mistake, Will be very interested to hear how they played out in Manchester

babyonboard · 10/07/2006 16:15
