I think that they don;t bother bringing out the parcels anymore, just pop a note through.

misdee · 07/07/2006 11:22

if its before 7.30 they arebnt allowed to knowck . ioften hear the letter box go just before and there is a card waiting. but they leave it in our bin cupboard.

sugarfree · 07/07/2006 11:22

I've had this before and I was sitting in the lounge when the card came though so I know that he didn't bother to check if we were in
first.
I phoned them up to complain and got the parcel redelivered.

hulababy · 07/07/2006 11:22

I have had this happen whilst I have been in before and agree it is so annoying. No idea why I haven't heard them or if they haven't rung - can't see why they shouldn't try the hosue though definitely.

Our sorting offic eis open till 11 on a Saturday which does help, altough a pain. I have to go today by 12.

Pinotmum · 07/07/2006 11:22

I've had this and it's v. annoying I agree. I also had a letter that needed signing put through the letterbox with a note saying the postman had signed for it for me!! Strange but true

Beauregard · 07/07/2006 11:24

Are you sure he didn't knock ? dont ya know the postman always knocks twice
Phone the sorting office and complain, was probably a casual postie, there was a thread yesterday about mail .
Dp works for royal mail and always encourages customers to complain.

geekgrrl · 07/07/2006 11:25

seems to depend on what kind of day they're having... our postie is lovely and just leaves parcels outside the front door (it's safe to do so here) but parcel force is a different matter... sometimes they can't be arsed to open the (unlocked) gate and just leave a card on there.

Anyway - I think that they are meant to come to the door. Sounds like yours just couldn't be bothered to ring. Highly irritating!

PrettyCandles · 07/07/2006 11:25

Phone up, explain, complain, and ask for it to be redelivered to you.

Can a neighbour take delivery for you? Can you ask for it to be delivered to another address (ie your work address)?

They do this so often - it is infuriating. I had a bouquet sent to me for my birthday, like you I was in when they 'attempted to deliver'. Not knowing that the parcel was perishable, I left it until after the weekend to go and collect, by which time the bouquet was half rotten. Grrr.

hulababy · 07/07/2006 11:25

pinotmum - I had a parcel delivered that required signing. I wasn't in. They put a note through the door to say it had been left in the little cubby hole behind the wheelie bin!!! Luckily it was still there. No idea who signed for it.

geekgrrl · 07/07/2006 11:26

our postman always signs for all our stuff, he's just being nice. I'm sure he'd get into trouble if his boss knew.

Hey, don't waste your sympathy! From the posties I've talked to, they may have to get up at stupid o'clock, but they get home early enough to colelct their LOs from nursery at lunchtime - a pretty fair quid pro quo IMO.

SecurMummy · 07/07/2006 11:36

I had this a little while ago - I called the depot straight away and they called his mobile and made him come back and deliver it.

They are not allowed to do it, but often do as it is quicker - in my case though it was 4 pots of cornish clotted cream which would not have stood a night at her majesty;s pleasure!

Beauregard · 07/07/2006 11:39

they dont finish till 2 or 3 and they start work either at 3 or 4!
And the pay is shite ,give them a break ,it really pisses me off as most of them work so hard ,they just get tarred with the same brush as the few bad ones who are nearly always casual employee's who couldn't give a toss.

JanH · 07/07/2006 11:39

Can't you ring and ask them to redeliver tomorrow? Or collect tomorrow? (Ours is open Sat am.)

SecurMummy · 07/07/2006 11:41

PFNM - no-one was slating them - just discussing this situation and a couple of anecdotal stories about nice things they had done....

TooTicky · 07/07/2006 11:42

You can get it delivered to your local PO for 50p I think. Ours get taken to the PO automatically here unless they are recorded because we're rural.

zippitippitoes · 07/07/2006 11:44

If they are automatically taken to the PO how do you know you have a parcel? Just curious

Zippi, I have a psychic arrangement with the postie.
No, actually we get a card through the door telling us we have one and where it is

divamummy · 07/07/2006 17:01

i would call and ask them to do redelivery. i mean today before they close. so you will have your parcel tomorrow

biglips · 07/07/2006 17:09

i had a parcel delivered yesterday and he knocked and rang the doorbell more or less at the same time. its takes me 3 seconds get to the door and open the door and there he was writing out the red card !!! i thought "hang on!!"
