KBear · 06/07/2006 17:07

me neither.

We are super cool and laid back!

misdee · 06/07/2006 17:08

hehe.

i remember my younger sister getting n a big panic over the baby jars thing (her dd is a PFB), but i just didnt care. she looked shocked when i picked up food jars and started wittering on about some health scare, but i didnt worry. dd1 was on a very strict diet at the time and the only jars she would eat were the baby organix ones, just before anyone goes on about giving babies food from jars is a nasty thing to do.

I am laid back about these things too - I never even owned a steriliser!

ilovecaboose · 06/07/2006 17:12

Sometimes I think that these parents who worry about everything must have too much time and energy on their hands. How can they remember what to worry about (when it changes on a daily basis) and have time/energy to think about it otherwise - phew its worn me out just thinking about it. Hmm I'm sure these scares will come around again - I'll worry about them next time round (possibly).

lucykate · 06/07/2006 17:14

don't forget, on mumsnet, lots of people may claim to feed their kids lentils they have woven themselves, making others feel inadequate, when really their kids are eating a tin of beans and sausages on toast for tea

.....types lucykate as she strolls across the kitchen with a tin opener in hand, excuse being we move house on monday, too much packing to do.....

cataloguequeen · 06/07/2006 17:15

I don't worry too much either!! there's always something to be worried about fgs

I'm sure the air we breathe is in all probability giving us cancer or something!! what should I do... stop breathing? buy child-size gas masks? leave the planet?

and at the end of the day so long as I'm not letting my children lick eggs and knowingly suck on tainted chocolate I have other more urgent things to deal with to be honest.

give yourself a break girl...you're not a bad mum

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/07/2006 17:18

Not buying into media sensationalism over the "latest research" doesnt make us bad parents.

Whilst its worth taking an interest in some issues, IMO it is often the case that it is one persons interpretation of research for whom grabbing a headline is the name of the game.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/07/2006 17:19

Anyway, apparently we should be more worried about wearing headphones whilst accompanying our children along a busy road

jalopy · 06/07/2006 17:25

I think you've got the right attitude, misdee. I think in your case, you've had to deal with life-threatening events on a regular basis and I think that has enabled you to put other things into perspective. Supermum, more like!

SparklyGothKat · 06/07/2006 23:11

misdee what the hell is PFB????

Skribble · 06/07/2006 23:49

Here is another thing to worry about. Have you considered the lead levels in your kids lunch box

AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH! leave us alone to play in the mud and eat raw cake mix .

all4girlz · 07/07/2006 00:14

if you took all the health scares to heart you would be totally neurotic
agree with misdee though have given up my fruit and nut for a while though!!

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 07/07/2006 09:53

Oh yes and babies in frontfacing pushchairs have delayed language development.
I think new mums should be encouraged to avoid tv, radio and papers because everyday there's some other overhyped story some lazy journalist has turned into a life or death choice for the listener. New mums especially are so vulnerable, I'm so glad I'm a laidback couldn't-give-a-toss type these days!

ilovecaboose · 07/07/2006 19:01

This all reminds me about my (daily mail reading) mum. I lived with her when ds was first born the strange dears were too hard to keep up with. The strangest one was about letting him be in a room with anything plugged into a plug socket - no not cos of fire but cos of 'waves'. If I put his cot anywhere near a plug socket she moved it whether or not it had anything in it. Funnily enough I tend to try and avoid sensationalist news stories now. I just haven't got the energy (unless I'm up for a laugh and bring back daily mail articles for OH to read and explain the 'bad science' behind them and how they got it so wrong).

ilovecaboose · 07/07/2006 19:01

That should be strange fears not dears. Sorry.

misdee · 07/07/2006 19:05
