I have been wearing glasses since i was 13 and i'm really fed up of them now. Every time i have a new pair, it's only a matter of days before one of the kids knock them and i have to go get them put back into shape.
I have tried contact lenses, but i was pregnant at the time, and then on the pill, both of which i've been told can effect your sensitivity toi them.
I am fine putting them in and taking them out, even managed to do it when extremely drunk
The biggest problem i have with contacts is that i just cannot get used to how i look without my glasses. It's stupid i know, but i just think i look really weird without them, ugly even.
So i'd like to know which you wear and why ?????

Thats exactly it Luckymum. If i take my glasses off then i think i look fine, but thats because i can't see properly can i. As soon as i put my contacts in i can see my face clearly and then think OH MY GOD what a state.

I'm short sighted and have worn specs since I was 12. I tried monthly disposable contacts for the first time when I was about 18, but I just couldn't get on with them. I found them v uncomfortable, they were with a peroxide solution and tbh I'm not sure that the catalyst disc in the lense pots were entirely efficient at neutralising the acids in the solution. I went back to wearing my glasses, i think they suit me tbh.

I thought about the laser surgery thing but having spoken to several opthamologists about it i've changed my mind pretty quick !

As DD got older I found that glasses were just constantly being pulled to pieces, she has always had a fascination with them. So DH (who also has dodgy vision) persuaded me to give lenses another try. I went to Vision Express this time and they were great. I was given a multi-purpose (no need to neutralise) type solution and have got on much better since.

I've had them for about a month and a half now and I wear them most days and most of the time I don't even feel like there is anything on my eye. I wear lenses from a practicality point of view, specs just aren't practical with an 18 month old. I also prefer the way my face looks in specs and I'm only just getting used to looking at my face in the mirror and not seeing my glasses there !

Specs wearer for 28 years (since age 9) and I have always hated them. Tried contacts when I was about 17 but the types available then just didn't suit me.

Now I have iritis and can't wear lenses. Would love to try laser surgery if I could afford it, but my eyesight would deteriorate again within 5 years or so and I would end up back in specs again anyway

Both.

I wear contacts in the day, but have to have a pair of glasses incase DS wakes up in the night. I wear them so rarely that I always for for the cheaper (dennis taylor) glasses that are about £30. Every now and again I get an eye infection and have to wear my specs out and feel like a right frump.

Reason for getting contacts was that I hated walking into a warm place while it was raining and my glasses steamed up.

nutty, I wear both but mainly lenses. I lost one just before dd2 was born (last spring in the snow inthe park) and it took me ages to get new ones, despite the fact that I hate wearing glasses - the physical sensation, not just having them pulled off my head by dds..
the only thing I'd say about changing to lenses is you might need a new 'look' eg change of hairstyle because losing the face furniture (!) changes the whole balance of your face. I couldn't do without mine. has anyone tried those glasses you can sit on

ooh windy I'd forgotten all about that steaming up business..it's a pain isn't it? I've worn glasses since I was about 10 but c/ls since I was 17 (now 38) so I'm very used to putting them in. I'd like to get some new glasses for downtime have you seen any good bargains lately?
