All stressy headed about dd's party - suggestions for games and activities to get it 'kicking'

Yes I know it is seriously pathetic to get worked up about dd's party, but sadly I do.

It's on 23rd July - but I haven't got as much time to plan as that sounds since I'm on hols between 8th and 15th July.

Anyway she will be 4, and we are planning on holding her party in the garden as usual.

We have hired a bouncy slide and will have a large paddling pool out for water play.

We've got a cracking sand pit and a good climbing frame and slide.

I will do pass the parcel, pin the tail on the donkey and probably musical bumps.

Also thinking of getting a pinata.

What other games and activities can I do to make it fun and enjoyable?

How would I organise a treasure hunt for example?

I really want to put on a good party (it's not a competitive mummy one upmanship thing - I just truly like to have everything perfect for dd on her birthday, and want to make it truly memorable)

how about making some party hats out of card, and letting them stick shapes and sequins on them? or have a crafty corner where they can do arty things? have fun!

How long is it? Sounds like you've got more than enough planned to have a fantastic time to me.

Sounds like a cracking good party hmc - can I come??

yep crakcing

YOU HAVE GOT LOADS OF ACTIVITES, AT 4 THEY WILL WANT TO DO THEIR OWN THING.Excuse shouting. If you need to have anything else planned then 2 simple things are to hang lots of pieces of green wool about 15 inches long on the trees and bushed and get children to see how many they can collect in a couple of minutes. Call them magic worms or something imaginative. also hide 1 card from each pair in a pack of pairs cards and then give each child a card and ask them to find its partner. when they have found one, give them another etc
Have a glass of wine- it sounds like they will have a ball in your garden without you having to do too much. At 4 they are still young to direct too much so relax and let them enjoy and if you need to step in with a game do. Put your dressing up box out as well.

is it a crakign dressing up box though

Thanks for the confidence boost (about it sounding like a cracking party already). I love, love, love Southeastastra and robinpud's suggestions and will definitely do them.

I'd quite like to enjoy dd's party too so I think I will delegate the organisation of some activities to Auntie J, and Granny and Grandpa...because don't you find otherwise that you are running around madly and it all passes in a blur (so you don't get to enjoy watching your child have a great party)

How many coming ? Perhaps have a scavenger hunt instead of a treasure hunt - so they have pictures to find the other half to or colour coded things, or a picture "list" of say 5 natural items to find (feather, pine cone etc) - or do a simple "Bear Hunt" type activity where an adult guides the story around the garden.
