Is it a combi boiler, popsy?

Mine has a flathead screw valve (as opposed to one with a tap on it) in a water inlet pipe - you turn the screw 90 degrees, so the groove in the screw runs along the pipe not across it, IYSWIM? That lets water into the boiler when the pressure drops - you have to watch the dial and hold the screwdriver in the screw so you can turn it off again as soon as you need to (have to be careful not to let too much in.)

That's on "the pipe leading up to the boiler" that momof2's DP mentioned. Mine is 20 years old though, yours may well be different...

BTW following some work we had to have done a few years ago, I had to go through the bleed-and-top-up routine repeatedly before it settled down. (The bathroom rad nearest the boiler used to get all the air. It did stop though - eventually! The person who fitted the boiler should have showed you what to do. Get him back!)

popsycal · 20/03/2004 21:11

oh helll - now i know why the pressure is low-the bolier is leaking!!!!!arhg!!!!!

not too much atm but had to turn off water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

popsycal, if it was fitted less than a year ago it should under warranty. Call the manufacturer. Sometimes they will extend the warranty by a few months if you make enough of a fuss and say that it wasn't fitted until just under a year ago etc. etc. Some of them do have 2 or 3 year warranties.

The filling loop varies from boiler to boiler, so it's hard to describe without knowing the make etc. If you can find the manual, it should tell you where it is. If you can't find the manual, most major makes have manuals and tech info online. But if your boiler is leaking you may not be able to get it working even temporarily. Sorry.

popsycal · 21/03/2004 00:14
