We had a softewood one about the same size put in earlier this year. They had to more than double the size of the opening to insert the double glazed unit, make good and replaster the internal wall. It all cost about £1,800.

Tinker this is my industry

Soft wood is cheaper than hard wood (much cheaper) hardwood would be aroune £350 and soft wood would be around £50 to £75, price would also include glass. hth

Agree with daddy28. Have similar size window 90 cm wide x 130 cm high. Want to replace with sash and got quoted £350-400 all in. That excludes installation which I am told'd me about £180 round here (N Surrey)

Pinotmum · 03/07/2006 20:39

DH is a carpenter and says £650 all in if like for like. Definitely go for hardwood.

Oh, thank god for the later messages. at 1.8 k. It is a sash, very very rotten casing, sashes probably repairable, but casement (is that the right term?) needs eplacing. Ideally, I'd go for another sash but hoping to sell the house. Getting a quote to either eplace it ourselves or be able to tell a prospecive purchaser what it would cost.

Not look at John Carr.

Where are you based daddy28?

babyonboard · 05/07/2006 19:05

We have had a quote of £900 for a box sash window,around 1.5 x 2 metres in softwood..which doesn't include installation!

Whatever you do...pleeease don't go for double glazing, it can really devalue your property (and looks rubbish ..lol!)

daddy28 · 25/07/2006 19:37

sorry tinker only just saw this post, i am based in lincs(bordering cambs)

Tinker · 25/07/2006 19:46

Damn daddy. Actually, have had some quotes from joinery manufacturers and they were very reasonable. Just need to get a joiner to fit it.
