CBEEBIES - back to the 1950's?

emsiewill · 11/02/2002 16:35

We've only had the new "CEBEEBIES" channel on for about 1/2 an hour, but I'm already ready to punch the presenters in the face. They are SOOOOO patronising - just like all those spoofs of 1950's children's TV that you see. I'm glad that there's some new programmes on - there's only so many times you can watch "Superbods", but what was wrong with the old format? My children haven't complained yet (and I suppose that's the test), but I'm seriously considering it.
Please let me know I'm not alone, and it's not just a result of the horrendous day I've had, courtesy of various rail companies!

Not very impressed with Cbeebies so far, neither is my 4yr old. The presenters are dreadful, they remind me of a sketch that Hale and Pace did years ago, they are just so patronising.
I never thought I'd say this but please bring back Bodger and Badger and Chucklevision

MalmoMum · 19/02/2002 20:13

Yes, Emsiewill, we are in Sweden and get Cbeebies a through a highly irregular route involving a basic Sky subscription to a UK address and a dish pointing the right way. I would like to be able to say I only use it to listen to radio 4 but ds and I compete for the TV in chill time. He wins and I get to read the newspaper.

I echo Munchie here bring back Bodger & Badter and Chucklevision - the programmes do seem aimed at very young child rather pre-schoolers - I hope it improves

callie · 20/02/2002 14:04

My dd is really missing Bodger and Badger!
And so am I ! It was guarranted to keep her busy for 10 mins.
She loves Brum though!! Completely transfixed.

She seems to be going off tweenis and tubbies.
Only likes it when they sing.

Daffy · 20/02/2002 14:48

I used to turn on in a morning for my little one to watch the tweenies and ttb's but now I can't do it............. I just can't. The presenters are just sooooo annoying. Why do they have to be there. I echo everyone else. BRING BACK ADRIAN!!!!

emmagee · 20/02/2002 18:42

lulu4o, at the same time as launching cbeebies they launched cbbc with older programmes, maybe they've gone there. Personally i'm thrilled to see the back of bodger and badger, but miss aunty mabel

Crinks · 21/02/2002 12:43

My 18 mth old and 2 yr niece LOVE Come Outside - I've resorted to ordering the video from the BBC (not avail. at retail). Credit card hotline no. 0870 830 8000, address BBC Educational Publishing,
PO Box 234, Wetherby, LS23 7EU, if anyone wants it. Looks like they do 5 different videos, all £14.99 each including "Around our Homes" with the 'poo' one!

Enid · 21/02/2002 13:13

Crinks! How can I ever thank you enough.

lulu40 · 21/02/2002 13:47

scanning through my TV guide for next week Bodger & Badger appearing to be coming back to us at 7.45 on Monday yippee and thanks Crinks every child I know loves Come Outside and we miss that too

Lobe · 21/02/2002 14:26

My three and a half year old LOVES Cbeebies! He is engrossed in particular by the Blue Cow stories on StoryMakers. Catch it if you can, it's quite surreal.

Phew, was beginning to think my 3 yr old was abnormal after reading other comments here - especially MalmoMum re: Storymakers. My boy loves this programme and almost lapses into an apoplexy of ectstacy while doing the 'Imagine, imagine, imagine the story' bit along with Milton. He has a pathological hatred of Bodger and Badger plus The Tweenies (potentially encouraged by me?), but Brum is a big hit. I realise I'm getting older now that I sing along with the vaguely Techno Brum theme tune and am even sort of hoping it might be released as a single. As for the presenters.. couldn't really comment as I've become expert in completely ignoring the links between programmes and can honestly say I don't register a word any of them say.

SarahN · 21/02/2002 15:17

I agree the Cebeebies channel is not all it is cracked up to be. Where are all the 5 min programmes like Fireman Sam, Postman Pat etc. I think the BBC are just trying to save money and fill in the gaps with the two presenters messing around. I don't think my three year old is impressed. I agree with everyone else bring back Bodger & Badger and Aunty Mabel, especially the one with the poo, haven't laughed as much in a long time.

lizd · 21/02/2002 15:33

I emailed the BBC to ask them about their plans for some of our favourites (Tony Hart, Pingu, Adrian). Received only a non-committal response but maybe some of you could do the same (www.bbc.co.uk/feedback). Perhaps they will take some notice of our heartfelt pleas. Have also just realised that Milton from Storymakers is the Cat from Red Dwarf.

jodee · 21/02/2002 16:01

Someone PLEASE tell them not to sing!!!!

Snugs · 21/02/2002 22:32

Sorry it's too late to tell you for this week - but Chucklevision: 3.55 Wednesdays BBC1(or at least it was this week!). DS thinks everything on CBBC is beaten hands down by The Hoobs on C4 from 6 til 7.00 am (worth setting the video for).

Carolann · 22/02/2002 22:32

Come outside is back on BBC2 on Wednesday 27. Thank goodness for the return of the education programs on 2. My 3 year old loves words and pictures plus. (The plus part is important. Jim streaching the words is great) I also get a break without feeling guilty about TV watching.

Anyway we are a great fan of the blue cow, smarteenies and the shinnies. But I would like to shake the presenters every time they talk down to us. Perhaps the BBC would like to watch the disney channel to see what they are trying to copy, not that I can cope with big Dave and Little Alex either.

MandyD · 22/02/2002 22:51

Yippee! I'm sure schools always have varying half terms but I don't remember disruption to my son's favourite programmes going on for so long in previous years! He's 3 next month but he began to like Words & Pictures Plus at 10 months old, and loves Come Outside. I've been in contact with someone who can copy me a video of 3 hours worth of episodes!

MandyD · 22/02/2002 22:53

p.s. SarahN - I'm dying to know, what happened in the episode with Auntie Mabel and the poo!! Whose poo!! Please let me know??

ChanelNo5 · 23/02/2002 08:36

It was one of Pippins (I hope!) and she flushed it down the lav.

SarahN · 23/02/2002 16:21

Mandy D, Aunty Mabel was showing the viewers what happened to all the dirty water in the house, if my memory serves me correctly she went to a sewerage plant etc. She even showed a diagram of all the pipes in the house and where they went (facinating stuff for my three year old who at the time was obsessed with pee and poo going "down the pipe" as he would say). As I remember suddenly out of the blue the camera switches to a shot of the toilet where smiling Aunty Mabel is just about to flush away a poo, you see it in all its glory. Hilarious when you have not had any adult company all day and have a bad dose of baby-brain! I'm on here to get the phone number to order the video!!!

jasper · 24/02/2002 00:57

I saw it too, it was really informative and I learned a lot about how the sewerage system works. Ds had just been toilet trained and was completely enthralled.
Much better than"Tweenie clock, where does it stop.."

Selja · 25/02/2002 11:12

CBBC must have been reading this thread because Bodger and Badger were back on again this morning (0745) - not that my ds watched it unfortunately. Could have done with him watching it as I was late getting ready for work and we had a fight trying to persuade him he didn't need a bath as I didn't have time!
