Does Mick Jagger have Marfan Syndrome?

Pretty random question, I know, but he was on TV strutting and I thought he has that weird long arm, long leg, long fingers, flat feet, sticky out chest, long face kinda look (most attractive I can tell you, especially on a strutting grandad!), and it dawned on me...Marfans Syndrome. Googled and asked Jeeves but no-one is giving it away if he has!
Anyone know or got a link to shed some light? Maybe he doesn't know he has it! Oh bugger...

Describing people with the characteristics of Marfan's Syndrome as 'weird' doesn't really fit the MN philosophy as said to a readership that is likely to include families with a member with MS.

People (me!) can get v sensitive at particular times. I went berserk with fury at a load of posters making comments about Heather Mills at the time when I was having to decide whether to have ds's leg amputated.

Other posters, disabled, were not at all offended.

MN has lots of people who are seeking advice and support at a particular stage in a difficult journey.

The MN philosophy is quite a good guide.

Being tall is a symptom of MS but not a diagnostic criterion. It affects different people in different ways. I would love to hear more about genetic testing as there is a chance DH and DS may have it. DH is not excessively tall but does have some symptoms, thankfully not affecting his heart or arteries.

Your GP can refer you to a local geneticist. There are super specialist clinics you can be referred on to.

Discrimination means treating somebody differently because of a characteristic, all the op has done is ask questions about public figures and slightly tactlessly use the term "weird", and she's already apologised for that. I don't think she's behaved in a discriminatory way at all.

Thanks Vatta. If you knew me in the real world you would realise how so NOT vile and discriminatory I am. But that's the problem with forums, hence not ever starting up a post before. To be honest I probably won't again. Even though I have had a lot of support from folk on here. Even this HTH business. It's all too subjective. And sweating insults actually offend me.
I'll continue to be a watcher, sod the inquisitive mind. I'll do that in real life with people who know me!

It's always difficult on forums, so hard to pick up on tone/how a person means something. Don't give up on mumsnet though, I've learnt loads on here and had lots of support, we're nice really!

I hope I'm generally 'nice' too. I am sorry if I was overly harsh...you clearly just didn't think and it came out as though you were chatting to a close friend or something.

The thing is - well if it helps, I think what I found distasteful was the speculation on a complete stranger's potential health condition.

I mean - if he has it, so what? Do you not really like him, and want to find something to point the finger at him for? Looking for a 'flaw' in someone generally regarded as successful? It certainly looked like you wanted to have a go at him and doing this by using what you had randomly guessed might be a health condition, was unkind and quite a low blow.

It would be like laughing at some other celebrity for possibly needing glasses, because they had got 'weird eyes' or something (how attractive)...can you see what I am getting at?

And if he doesn't have it then it still looks as though you are pointing the finger at those who do in a 'you have peculiar bodies' kind of way.

It also reminds me a bit of threads where someone says 'I think my friend's child has AS/ADHD, because he is right little sh*t. Should I say something?' when the OP clearly has NO idea what these conditions involve and just wants an excuse to demonise a child or their parents.

Anyway I hope this makes sense. MN is a great place generally but we all tread kind of carefully on this sort of thing. I suppose it's political correctness, but it has its uses.

Well not a flattering or kind description of Marfan characteristics. I have 'marfanoid characteristics', and it may run in my family.

I personally think its not very kind to describe someone as

Try reading it back imagining you are describing my father, my sister, me... Still sound nice to you?

It is a very serious problem and two people in my family might have died from that 'weirdness' (def something in that area anyway).

So yes, I think choosing your words more carefully in future might be a littler nicer, don't you?
