My next door neighbour has 2 cats that always poo in our garden. Am starting to get a bit annoyed with it now

What works to deter them ?have tried some stuff from hardware shop didn't work!

The only advice i can give is to shoot them

ilovecaboose · 29/06/2006 10:09

Strong citrus smells out them off as the smell is to strong for their sensitive noses and hurts (they have a better sense of smell than dogs). Use lemon/orange/lime juice over your garden and it should put them off without being dangerous for kiddies. Another one is disinfectant but not sure if it would damage your plants.

Used to have this problem a lot but we now have a pet rabbit who lives in the garden and I think they are scared of him! I suppose they need peace and queit to "go" and he must put them off!

PFNM,I think it would be kinder to try at least try and hit them with a football first!

Beauregard · 29/06/2006 10:21

stoning is good too

warthog · 29/06/2006 10:23

they hate water. if you don't have a hosepipe ban, spray them with it.

zippitippitoes · 29/06/2006 10:27

make sure you remove all traces of poo as they return by smell to the same sites. Buy some Renardine and soak some pieces of wood old 2x2 or similar and put at the points where the cats enter the garden and where they normally go..it smells horrible but is very effective ..renew as necessary (it lasts a while) Hopefully it will train them to go elesewhere. Also ask your neighbiour to give them a litter tray.

sugarfree · 29/06/2006 10:47

Zippi, surely you mean make sure the neighbour removes all traces?

Gemmitygem · 29/06/2006 10:51

my mum uses a waterpistol.. now they run as soon as they hear the window opening.

For tougher cats she uses ice cubes in a catapult. Cruel, but ice cubes melt, so neighbours can't prove anything

HappyDaddy · 29/06/2006 11:33

Lemon or orange peel help, pepper is good too. Make sure you keep your grass short too, they like to poo in long grass but not short.

NotQuiteCockney · 29/06/2006 11:36

Cats prefer outside to a litter tray, in my experience.

A neighbour of mine has had good luck keeping cat poo out by keeping cats out. He put netting through the fence all the way around his garden. I always close his gate, if I see it open, so the cats (ok, my cats) don't go in.

CarlyP · 29/06/2006 11:37

theres stuff you can buy called 'get off my lawn' havent tried it (we have a dog, so no cats in our garden!) but it may be worth a go.

id tell your neighbour and if they get 'nasty', throw backa ll cat poo to there garden

Bananaknickers · 29/06/2006 11:38

My cats have a litter tray and still used to poo in nextdoors garden. She used to put filled up plastic bottles of water aound the garden.I have heard orange peel is goo though.Shame but you can't take the cats to one side and tell um off . We moved and next door they have two dogs and this has done the trick . It's a pain though for you I know

hunkermunker · 29/06/2006 11:38

Naughty step.

Twiglett · 29/06/2006 11:39

Bananaknickers · 29/06/2006 11:39

Ming you yes saying that one of mine will come in from outside for a dump

Bananaknickers · 29/06/2006 11:40

oh that was supposed to say mind. I don't want to start a fight i didn't mean to call you a minger

LilacWine · 29/06/2006 11:41

we have a cat and other cats started pooing in the garden when ours ran away for a while. we noticed they only pooped in the grass when it was long. now our cat is back they've stopped doing it.
