It can vary widely depending on what you need from it, how many rads etc.

On the whole though British Gas are expensive. Get a few quotes from CORGI registered installers to compare and ask them which boiler they are planning on fitting.

Some places will give you a cheap quote but the boiler isn't a good one. You can probably compare prices of the different makes yourself to determine whether you are getting a good one or not.

IME B Gas v. expensive. What did they say? Try a local firm.

I am going to ring my plumber for a price tomorrow as we have got to get a new one - will let you know what he quotes. He did say in the region of £1400.

That's for a standard boiler not a combi.

Oh & I found out yesterday building regs now state any replacement boiler must be a condensing boiler but some plumbers are still fitting the old style cheaper ones.

Maybe not a problem now but could be when selling your house esp. with sellers pack coming in.

I'm going to check up on that too.

Have you ever used a local (Corgi pref) plumber, or do you have friends who have who would recommend? B Gas are notoriously expensive.

loads on the internet - in the region of £1000-1500 - find out what model he is proposing and look up the price.

Has to be a condensing boiler now -but not necessarily a combi one.

thanks everyone - will do a bit of homework !
I find the whole B Gas thing, though expensive, a reassuring set-up and am a bit wary of finding someone else- naturally I'd check their CORGI registration..

Quote is £1600..that's for a Vaillant, not sure what size (house is 4 beds). Seems a lot but guy is Corgi & seems to know what he's doing. Dsis had a quote from B Gas for £3k for a similar job, ended up paying local, reputable firm about half that.

julienetmum · 22/06/2006 21:55

Vaillant is a good make. That quote sounds reasonable.

JanH · 24/06/2006 13:47

That does sound very reasonable for a Vaillant - they are the best and quite a lot more expensive than others but worth it!

Our Vaillant is 23 years old and still going strong, although the BGas engineer who came for its most recent service warned that it is getting more and more corroded inside and will have to be replaced before much longer because of that - all the parts are still available (we have had a few replaced over the years under the service agreement).
