today reminded me why i never go anymore.

if i could magic myself into the pool and then magic myself back out dry, fully clothed then i'd probably go every day. BUT i usually let dh do the honours while i stay home with dd2 reading papers in bed. However someone lent me a baby float-thing and i thought it might be nice for us to take both kids - WRRRRRRRONGGGGG!

firstly couldn't find a cozzy or tankini post-dd2 that didn't a)make my back boobs spill out b) roll under my stomach/c-section scar, so i had to wear my maternity swimsuit which is so distinctive it might as well have NOT PREGNANT JUST FAT printed on it

was charged £9 for 2 adults, a 4yo and a baby Shock

dh (who goes every week with dd1) took dd1 into the men's and i took dd2 into the women's. as stated previously, it is dd2's first time and once in the pool, is NOT impressed. no crying but a distinctly po-faced expression on her face throughout, as if to say 'I can't believe you think is an acceptable way to spend a sunday morning'

THEN we all get out and i go back into women's changing room with dd2, only to realise that i have left the talcum powder on the kitchen table, so getting dd2 dry takes an AGE and to top it off, and most mortifying of all, i have left my bra and knickers in dh's bag (i went in my cozzy under my clothes). I can't leave dd2 unattended and of course, being a man, he does not think of anything sensible like sending dd1 into the women's changing room with my underwear. SOOOOOOOOO i have to put my jeans on without any pants, AND wear a flimsy summer top with no bra and 40DD norks flapping and a-swinging. may as well have tucked them into the top of my jeans.

absolutely disgusting way to spend a few hours. WILL NOT be going again any time soon.

LOL!

It's appalling isn't it. I think swimming and being in water is actually a nice place to be. Swimming pools, however, are probably the 5th circle of hell or worse. There's absolutely no excuse for them to be so unpleasant, expensive, dirty, noisy and generally revolting.

Grin lol

Mascaraohara · 18/06/2006 21:01

Sorry but LOL!! PMSL by the time I got to the end of your post!

We went swimming today, it was lovely if not a little crowded.

Bozza · 18/06/2006 21:01

Grin moomin you had a bad day. Apart from the somewhat mortifying lack of underwear I would say the rest of it was pretty much par for the course of taking children to local pool.

Here's my Top Tip: Take a dressing gown for yourself rather than a towel. Strip off the cossie, put on the gown and then deal with our children. You stay warm(ish) and by the time they're ready, you're dry.

Oh I do it the other way round soupie - I take a dressing gown for the kids. Sit them on the bench in their dressing gowns with a snack and deal with myself first.

Thomcat · 18/06/2006 21:14

Dare i say it - pmsl all over again!

Moomin · 18/06/2006 21:16

Tucking the norks in the jeans did it for Grin Grin

Don't have a baby and DP always takes DS who is 4 and I take DD who is 6, still find it a huge pain though so cannot begin to imagine how hard it must be for you with a little baby.

I think I took the kids swimming once when they were babies and that was all.

SoupDragon · 18/06/2006 21:18

Dressing gown instead of a towel so no extra palaver thre.

And I'm afraid I don't believe in snacks in the changing rooms. Nothing worse than treading in something soggy that a child has dropped whilst eating.

quanglewangle · 18/06/2006 21:20

Hear hear! Nasty wet smelly chloriney places.

We went swimming this pm, and ended up in the minor injuries dept as a result. In the changing room after the swim, DS (2.5) slipped, and bashed his head on the bench, resulting in a small but deep looking cut by his left eyebrow. We decided better safe than sorry, so hurried off to the minor injuries dept, where (having asked me if I was OK with it first) they had to wrap him in a blanket, and one nurse held his body and another his head while a third nurse put skin glue on the cut (had to take all the precautions to make sure they didn't get any in his eyeSad). He did scream, but it only took about 20 seconds, and he was fine afterwards. Ashamed to say I did shed a few tears tooSad. He seems absolutely fine, thankfully, but it wasn't fun.
