usually if the debt is paid off it doesnt count several mortgage companies will accept debts which have been cleared

I used to work for data protection registrar so can answer this one.

CCJs remain on your credit ref file for 6 years although you can have a note put on to say that it has been paid in full (and would advise you to do this) - you need to do this via the credit reference agencies (see below for link).

You can't have it removed. There are some dodgy companies who claim that they can help you remove it - do NOT believe them it's not true.

Would recommend you get a copy of your credit ref file - if you've not already done so.
You can get one here equifax credit ref agency

Lots of lenders will still consider you so don't worry. Oh, and don't belive anyone who talks about blacklisting there is no such thing. Credit is given on the basis of a credit score which is worked out taking into account factors like previous credit history, income etc. There are no blacklists.

It's just that mothernature is a regular on these boards and it could get confusing!

CookieMonster · 16/02/2004 12:50

mothernature1 - just wanted to back up what Katierocket said. I work for Equifax and what she says is quite right. Whether that CCJ is taken into account or not will depend entirely on your lender and what rules they apply when calculating your credit score.
