How do I stop DH Sleep Walking?

That's it really? Just got a call from DH - he's away at a conference at the moment - he had been woken up in the bathroom of another hotel room by a strange woman! Very embarrassed and thanking God that she hadn't freaked out he asked me for advice. I couldn't suggest anything more than put a suitcase in front of the door. Thank God the windows don't open!

So, any advice? He's always sleep walked usually in a funny way (Came home from night out to find him buttering a whole loaf of bread etc.) but am worried he'll get himself into trouble. If that woman had been scared... doesn't bare thinking about. Any suggestions?

Hmmm - how did he get in the wrong room?

Nobody knows! Got through a locked door. Security Guard reckoned it wasn't shut properly. Crossed over the corridor from his room and into hers.

Sleepwalking is a recognized medical syndrome and should not be trivialized. Your dh should go and see his gp about this and get some real solutions before he kills himself (walking into a busy road). Also I don't know if you know this but sleepwalking is genetic and is related to night terrors. Often children of sleepwalkers have night terrors. Worth reading up on them so you are prepared. My dd used to get them and they are pretty scary (but totally harmless).
You can buy travel door alarms for fairly little money. They're supposed to warn you if a burglar tries to break into your hotel room in the night. Might just work to wake up your dh if he's trying to walk out of the room. Look on the internet for them.

Thanks Sofia, he's never done anything dangerous to date. Had no idea it was genetic, no family history of night terrors or sleep walking, so fingers crossed it's recessive. Will do some research. Good tip on the alarm - will get him one!

We have a long tradition of sleep walking in my family, although I fortunately did not inherit the problem. My sister places a piece of furniture and all her luggage blocking the door when she travels, she has also found herself in different places. I think that's one of the reasons why she always hated to travel
