what does it say when you log on to your paypal account?

SparklyGothKat · 16/06/2006 12:16

My paypal said that a payment went yeaterday for £13.85 which was me. No other payments. I think they want me to click on the link.

I've never used PP so i'm a bit clueless Grin

does that confirmation look identical to one you would normally recieve from them?
or does it just look a bit similar?

mumfor1standfinaltime · 16/06/2006 12:19

I had one of these saying I had bought a rolex! I checked my bank account and my paypal account and nothing had been taken out.

Report it to paypal.

Paypal advised me to change my password on my account to be safe and to check with my bank account/credit card to make sure nothing had been touched. It is basically a phishing email to get you to give your details out to them ie passwords or bank details etc.
Ignore it and wipe it (after reporting it to paypal)

mumfor1standfinaltime · 16/06/2006 12:20

ps do not click on any links in an email like this.

rickman · 16/06/2006 12:20

send to [email protected], they normally reply within a few minutes.

SparklyGothKat · 16/06/2006 12:20

there is another one in my email box for $467. OMG...

OP posts:
NomDePlume · 16/06/2006 12:21

FORWARD THE EMAIL TO

[email protected]

They will reply with an email confirming whether or not it came from them.

arfy · 16/06/2006 12:21

is definitely a fake, had one last week
don't click on anything and forward it to the paypal address rickman gave

NotQuiteCockney · 16/06/2006 12:21

Scam. Please don't click on any links.

SparklyGothKat · 16/06/2006 12:21

haven;t click on the link

OP posts:
mumfor1standfinaltime · 16/06/2006 12:22

It is a spoof email. Report it now!

Ledodgyherring · 16/06/2006 12:22

It's fake I keep on getting them from someone pretending to be ebay.com.

NomDePlume · 16/06/2006 12:22

I get loads of 'em. I very rarely get any genuine emails from Paypal.

SparklyGothKat · 16/06/2006 12:24

have forwarded them to Paypal.

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 16/06/2006 12:27

and also deleted them

Rojak · 16/06/2006 12:33

If Paypal sends you an email, they will use your name, not Dear Paypal member

SparklyGothKat · 16/06/2006 12:35

thats what I thought, I checked it against the one I did recieve yesterday for the payment I made, and I saw that it had my name. Bit scary though that someone might click on the link

OP posts:
satine · 16/06/2006 12:48

The fakes are getting so good these days, it's scarey.

surprise · 17/06/2006 18:47

If you hover your cursor over the link, it will give you the address in the bar at the bottom of your screen. I had one of these, and the link was to a site called paypall.com (with two Ls). Looked completely genuine. If you receive one, always go to the proper paypal site by typing the address yourself, and then deal with them that way.

Blandmum · 17/06/2006 18:53

fake. I've had one and I have never used paypal and don't have an account
