I know there are MNers who have one!

I've jsut changed the filter but the filter light hasn't gone green again. Is this because I've used a "compatible" (ie cheap) cartridge or do I have to do something to reset it?

Not sure - DH did ours recently - I can't ask him until this evening, but will do if you don't get a reply from anyone else.

Thanks :) I've put the instruction manual "somewhere safe"

My instructions say

When the green light changes to orangem it is time to replace the water filter. If indicator is red, quick replacement is strongly recommended,

When the water filter is replaced, reset the indicator by pressing the Ice Type button and the Child Lock buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds.

To turn this indicator off, press the ice Type and Child Lock Buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds.

Hope this helps, mine isn't lit up at all so must be turned off - only just got it so can't need changing already,....

What a brill fridge, soooo excited still... Give DD icecubes everytime time now and she will drink water again with them...

And looks so good in our new kitchen. I'm very sad I know

DH not home yet, but have found our instructions (false start with the instructions for the TV - we are House of Samsung atmSmile). There isn't anything to imply that you need to do anything for the light to go back to green. The instructions for putting the new filter in read:

"Line up unlocked symbol(like an unlocked padlock) with the indicator line (little downward pointing arrow head) so that it can be inserted into the filter cover. Turn the cartridge a quarter turn to the right to lock it into place. You will feel a stop and the locked symbol should now be lined up with the indicator line.

Dispense water through the dispenser for 3 minutes to purge the system.

Open the refrigerator door and check the filter area for leaks."

Maybe it goes green when you start putting water through? I'll ask DH when he gets home.

Yours is a different filter to mine then Jackino. IIRC there are 2 types, internal and external. Mine is external and you just push the little hosepipe in either end and screw on connectors.

Jamese instructions did the trick (and if I'd know how to do it I would have pretented that I'd changed the cartridge ages ago!).

Thanks :)

Got my filters \link{http://www.carts4fridges.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=260\here} BTW.

Ah, ours is the internal type. DH got the replacement filter from some website or other and they have an auto order thingy, where they automatically send you a new filter every 6 monthsSmile. Glad you've got it sorted.

Kaloo20 · 16/06/2006 13:52

Phew - glad they work Soupy, I was gonna ask you just that on Saturday morning. Now I can buy cheap compatible cartridges too

LOL we have been needing a new cartidge for over a year and have not been able to use the water and icecubes ! Just never get round to ordering them

dkdad · 16/06/2006 14:08

I went to but a new Samsung cartridge the other day having summoned up the courage to part with the best part of £50.

The guy in the shop was fab - 'You can buy one if you really want to, but Samsung themselves say that there is no need as the water quality here is perfectly good as it is.'

SoupDragon · 16/06/2006 14:11

Sadly, our water is very hard (it has a flick knife and everything). Mind you, I've put off getting a new filter for 18 months or so.

Didn't put me off using the water & ice dispenser though.

We have the hardest water in Europe here. The filter is not designed to be a water softener anyway.

Following Samsung's advice, we've been running the same filter for 2 years now no problem.

At £100 per year in filters, I'd really want to be sure they were necessary before parting with my cash!

SoupDragon · 16/06/2006 19:19

Must say I was fairly vague in my mind about what the filters actually did but assumed filter = good. Still, mine were only £12 each!
