Answered door to delivery man

well DS (5) went up to door said "Mummy can I answer the door" and I said yes as I was right behind him (that's what we do .. he's allowed to open it if he's asked and one of us is with him, otherwise not allowed to open it)

so delivery geezer bloke goes "you shouldn't answer the door" "I've got a big van, I could've taken you away"

well thanks a lot mate .. since when was it your job to try to scare the sh!t out of other people's children .. just deliver your parcel and feck off

Oh that is a bit uncalled for. Mine are always answering the door (although my eldest is 10, so a bit different) when they think they can beat me to it. Once I was feeling ill upstairs and had made my mind up not to answer the door, but the childen did and I heard them explaining to the man that I was not able to come to the door and he told them nicely enough to shut and rebolt the door (we have it permanently bolted with several bolts so when we open it, it sounds like Fort Knox being opened!) I was quite impressed that he told them that. I thought it was nice that he was teaching them to be safe, but I wouldn't have liked what your man said in your circumstances. Fool.

I was at a football game - dh was on the field and ds was about 30 feet away collecting sticks to make a pretend fire, which was about 10 feet away from me.

One of dh's team mates told me that he should be closer to me because a man had abducted a child the other week.

"really? from this park?" says I - no, it turned out that it was a different park, different time of day, different age child, no football match in progress etc.

I really wanted to tell him that somebody had died playing football once so he probably should change and go home - but I didn't think of it until afterwards.

I just thanked him for his concern.

Caligula · 14/06/2006 10:48

Ah, he was just showing concern. Cack-handed, but not actively evil. Grin

Twiglett · 14/06/2006 10:50

I know it was concern .. it was too close to DS's friend telling me that I didn't want DS to go out of sight because "a man would grab him and take him back to his house and into his kitchen and get a big knife and stab him in the chest till he's dead" (but I have a thread on that particular shock)

One of my nosey neighbours doesn't think my dt's should still use a pushchair (quite what it's got to do with him I don't know) and if he sees them walking always says sarcastically 'Oh you can walk then! Hur hur!'

If looks could do the job he would be reduced to ash and two smouldering trainers by now.Angry

Caligula · 14/06/2006 10:52

Grin Shock Gosh is that imagination or a film?

foxinsocks · 14/06/2006 10:55

lol tinygang - he probably has nothing much to do and likes seeing your dts about!

they recently reshowed that film on one of the digital channels - it looked so dated now and I remembered it being really exciting (which of course, it wasn't!)

northstar · 14/06/2006 10:57

slightly different but..
ds (4) playing outside front door step yesterday when old grumpy neighbour walks by and tells him he shouldnt be in bare feet because he WILL (not might) step on a bee and get a big sting! Now he is frightened to go outside without shoes and socks on, even on the beach later he was worried about taking his shoes off. I wish that woman hadnt said anything.
