DD1's birthday party, can I run an idea past the court of MN?

DD1 will be 5 in March. She started Reception this January, and she made no friends at her nursery. So basically she is friendless, apart from ONE little boy whose mother I know.

She didn't have a part last year due to my SPD/hyperemesis so I would like to do something special for her. Having a party in our flat is out of the question (pupuce will testify to that!).

So I'm thinking about getting the names of about 5 kids she is friendly with at school from the teacher and taking her to Art4Fun and having pizza delivered there.

So...do you think 5 is too young for a painting plates party? Do you think I don't need to do a goody bag as the child will get to keep the plate?

Or

should I just book some sort of ball park climbing frame thing?

DD1 would love either I think!

No I don't think they did like my candles. They were silver plated!! Quite cheap (designer centre in York) but I liked them.
Yes, please Pie! But would a two year old cramp her cool style?

pie · 10/02/2004 12:24

I should think that she would love to have another guest aloha! No one cramps her style like I do...

It will be the 21st March btw in the Notting Hill branch.

Pie, I suspect we might be near each other, so if you don't mind can I pick your brains - did you look into any climbing frame places near you before settling on the plate party idea? Any recommendations? (Ds 5 just before Easter and will go into terminal decline if not allowed climbing party.)

hi blinkie...are you thinking of Bramleys Big adventure?

Yes, or maybe Kensington Leisure, or Seymour Centre ... don't really know what there is out there. His school's in St J's Wood so other parties have been more north London.

binkie · 10/02/2004 13:27

meant others' parties, of course

pie · 10/02/2004 13:32

dd1 had bramleys a few years ago and tbh its not worth the money (for me), 1.30 hrs on frame then chicken nuggest and chips all for £10 ph...I haven't been to a party at Ken leisure, but heard its a lot cheaper than bramleys though frame not as big. not familiar with seymor centre. if the frame is the big want though bramleys' is better.

where abouts are you binkie?

sorry for typos feeding baby only one hand!

Blue Kangaroo on New Kings Road - restaurant and train set upstairs- do kids parties. AND downstairs - soft play area, its clean, big enough but not so big that you lose them like at Syon Park. It costs about £3 for under 3's to play. My 2 and a half loves it and his nanny takes him once a week. Suitable for older kids and not to busy during the week.

Thank you on Bramleys - I was a bit doubtful about it but as you say might have to grit the teeth.

We're Bayswater, the unsalubrious Paddington side. And you?

Kaz, thanks - new idea!

Pie, just saw this and I LOVE the idea of the plate painting. Two years going I have gone to the ceramics show here in Orlando. We have several of these stores here and they are all doing fantastic. I went out and purchased a kiln (which my husband STILL needs to hook up). I had an idea to do home parties here in the screened room...we'll see if I ever get there! My DD loves to paint everything, and what I like is so many of things in the shops here have pieces that you can get use from--i.e, the plate. If you feel compelled to do a goody bag, I would put in one nice bar of chocolate and ask the shop owner if they have a coupon they would throw in for a discount next time if the kids want to come on their own with their families. Have a blast then!

Its only been running just over a year. It is opposite Chelsea Football Ground so a bit of a hike for you , but sure you could get bus.

On thursday morning they have story telling, never been, but my nanny says its good.

Have been to Syon Park and thought it was huge, the kids were unsupervised, the place was dirty and not happy about leaving boys there. This is definitely a cut above that, its well run, clean, the kids that you meet there are mostly polite and well behaved.

The one downer is that it is going to be more expensive than the other options that you highlighted. To play is £2 - £4 ish depending on the age of your child. You don't have to eat but I recall a cup of coffee is about £1.50. The food upstairs could be a bit dear if you want to have a party. But if Pie/Binkie you are looking for something to do its a great place - highly recommended.

Ps; i'm not on the pay role. Apparently they are looking to expand and are currently looking for more properties.
