Transporting a second-hand bed - HOW?!

My mum has offered us a single bed (that used to be mine, aw bless) for ds2 - there's only one problem. She lives an hour and a half drive away - how do we get it here, any ideas?

Would hiring a van be the cheapest option (i.e. not very cheap) or are their other ways of getting it here - (courier?!!). Her boyfriend is currently making noises about strapping it to the roof of his corsa... I'm remaining unconvinced Wink

divan?

It would be OK on a roofrack but would stick out a lot on a Corsa so he'd have to take it slow.

Is there anybody with a larger car who could bring it?

Nope, frame & mattress - it'd probably be a two journey job.

The corsa has a roofrack. We have an Almera but no roofrack.

I've just shifted a double with a pine base in a normal car - with back seats down. Mattress folded up and then pine frame came to pieces.

You could take just the frame (would fit inside the Almera with seats folded down/forward I think}and buy a new mattress for DS2? (But that would probably cost more than hiring a van!)

Oh that's a good idea - I wonder if the frame will come to pieces. As I say, it's an old bed (ahem, around 32 years old) and fairly sturdy wood. Not sure if it's been glued together or not.

Yes, new decent mattress would be around £140 for a Silent Night one. The one they've got there is a really nice one too, so would be a shame to leave it behind :)

The frame is 96cm wide by 191cm long - not sure how deep. Would be worth seeing if we could fit that inside the Almera though...
