Burn (is that even the right word?!) a CD to make a compilation CD? I was thinking I could buy a blank CD and then copy some stuff from my ITunes onto it - need to make a CD of tracks for our civil ceremony, and then a couple of CDs of cheesy '80's music for the evening do afterwards.

My brother seems to think this isn't possible because you can't put MP3 stuff onto a CD. I'm completely baffled - what's the point of having blank CDs if you can't make compliations??

Ho hum. Any advice gratefully received!

yes it's possible. if you use a cd burning programme such as nero, it will convert the mp3's into CD audio files.

Never used ITunes but you can certainly do it with Media Player, I have loads of home made compilations.

PrettyCandles · 07/06/2006 16:48

Yes you can. I don't think you'ld use MP3s but straight audio files. We use a program called Nero on our PC that does this.

I've burnt CDs before. Maybe your brother is talking about the different file formats? Some CD players won't play certain file types - it doesn't matter for me as my compliation CDs are to play in the car and that supports pretty much everything, but the CDs won't play on my CD player indoors as it's a few years old and only plays bog standard ones. You can convert music files, but I don't know which ones you need, shamefully I leave the technical gubbins to DH Blush Someone on here is bound to know though, and if not, I'll hijack Dh when he gets in Smile

See, told you!

MrsBigD · 07/06/2006 16:55

he's sort of right :) you can put mp3's on a cd but they won't play on a cd player like the ancient thing they had at our wedding ceremony

lou33 · 07/06/2006 16:58

yes you can, i do it a lot, tho not with i tunes

Dottydot · 07/06/2006 17:00

Nero. Right - will attempt to find this and have a go (always nice to prove my little brother wrong - again..!).

you go dotty!

meant to also say in my mssage that you probably can use some software to convert and then you'd be fine but ds clicked the post message button!

wannaBe1974 · 07/06/2006 21:20

dotty, if you're running windows xp on your computer there's a free way of doing this. If you get a programme called CDex, you can convert the mp3's to CD audio files and can then burn them to cd with windows xp.

Dottydot · 08/06/2006 22:04

ooh blimey - yes, we're running Windows xp - will have a rummage around. we've definitely got media player, haven't checked for the other thingy. Ah well, 6 weeks to go - I'm sure I work it out by the time we're floating up the aisle (or is it down?!)...
