I am not including the freelance that come to your home as they are usually reasonable. The bloody expense is driving me crazy. I qualify the amount they charge for what they do. The cuts are not all that great and I rarely walk out thinking wow that was great. My main gripe is the money that is exchanging hands. There needs to be a government directive on the top price they can charge Grin

And why do blokes always have cheaper cuts and colouring?

poppiesinaline · 07/06/2006 09:49

I agree. I refuse to go to the hairdressers. Find a freelancer then to come to your home. I have one, he cuts my hair, DH hair and two kids for £38.00 :)

NomDePlume · 07/06/2006 09:51

The guy who does my hair is fabbo. £17 for a dry trim for me. £10 for 3yo DD. I agree that it is madness given that we are sat in the chair for about 10 mins each, but he does a really good job (better than more expensive salons I've been to), his ssalon is about 2 mins walk (max) from my front door and is a lovely bloke.

tenalady · 07/06/2006 10:00

Is that it thenGrin am I the only one that has to choke up £85 quid every other month for a bad hair cut and a few foils eh?

You need to find a new hairdresser, especially if you are paying £85 and you don't rate the results !

Flossam · 07/06/2006 10:02

It always takes them a minimum of an hour to cut my hair. I have rather a lot of it! Grin

Carmenere · 07/06/2006 10:03

85 quid is pretty good compared to round here! There was a very good article in an Irish paper last year comparing the prices of men and womens haircuts and their conclusion is that, as we suspected we are being royally ripped off!Angry

tenalady · 07/06/2006 10:04

NDP I have tried 7 hairdressers in my town and not found one very much cheaper than that. I wish I could but the rates all seem the same.

One time i paid £115 for full head highlights and a cut that was more of a trim!

SSSandy · 07/06/2006 10:06

I pay 40 Euro for a wash, trim, blowdry, nothing fancy, no streaks or anything. I find it expensive for what I get but I made the mistake of going to a cheaper place once and getting a really awful cut which my hair still hasn't completely recovered from 8 months later. So I prefer to stick with the devil I know although I feel ripped off.

Beetroot · 07/06/2006 10:07

well i am going today so don't make it today.

tenalady · 07/06/2006 10:08

Good luck beetroot

Well I think it is a very interesting point really. I mean how long do you spend there? 2-3 hours so they are getting about £30 an hour, from multiple customers at a time, what other profession gets that? It is a lot of money and they play on womens insecurities, how many times has your hairdresser rubbished the job the last hiairdresser has done? Quite a few in my experience. And god love you if you have doen your own colour!!!
Men don't get charged nearly the same because quite simply men wouldn't pay it.

SSSandy · 07/06/2006 10:14

I'm there for a maximum of half an hour

LadyTambaOfTambaTown · 07/06/2006 10:15

Mine costs 34 pound for a wash and trim - is that expensive as hairdressers go?

NotActuallyAMum · 07/06/2006 10:17

Had mine cut last Friday for the first time in 18 months Blush paid £10.50 which, as others have said, is expensive for 7-8 minutes. My hair is very long, curly and thick though but even so, still a lot of money

My sister does my highlights for me - I buy a Wella kit from the supermarket for £4,99 and it looks fine

tenalady · 07/06/2006 10:20

This would be my price wish list

Dry trim £5
Wash & Blow Dry £12
Cut Wash & Dry £25
Cut, foils, wash & dry £45
All kids trim £5

I suppose the only thing you can say in hairdressers defence is a bet their overheads are high as most of them rent in fairly expensive high street locations. I also understand from a friend that her public liability insurance etc is very high and she has to stand the cost of a lot of cancellations and no shows.

She runs a more upmarket salon in Nottingham and I really couldn't say that they are rich although they do spend quite a lot on stuff like cds/clothes/cars/holidays etc.

But I do agree that what some of them charge is outrageous.
