DS's nursery door left on latch this morning to let staff in

Dh dropped ds off at nursery earlier than normal today as he had an early start, so he got there at 7.30am.

The door (normally have to buzz and wait to be let in) was on the latch, dh questioned this and was told as it was early and there were hardly any kids there they leave it on teh latch so staff can let themselves in Shock

Now ovbiously this is unacceptable and i am going to phone the manager. I hate confrontation and it's usually me who apologies!!

So, in MN style, what should I say to make sure this dies not happen again?? Should I be nice or should I rant and rave?!!

Thanks guys.

Go bonkers with the manager its totally unacceptable and just plain lazy

Be nice, plesantly mention that DH was horrified, quietly mention that you will be ringing ofsted and gently suggest that if this ever happens again you will really make trouble for them Grin

Bang out of order IMO, not a clever way to run a nursery

OK. Spoke to Nursery Manager and she knows about this system!!

She says some staff get there at 7am to set up. Nursery opens at 7.30am, so the early staff leave door on latch so other staff can let themselves in and don't disturb the early staff by buzzing the buzzer. This morning's staff forgot to take door off the latch again at 7.30am.

This doesn't sit quite right with me. What if some nutter lets himself in and hides till kids arrive. I know it's a big what if, but IMO the nursery are leaving themselves wide open should something happen and it comes to light that they leave door on latch.

What do you think?

I think it is wrong to do, I guess though, what happens before nursery opens is really up to them (IYSWIM) I would still not be happy though

Why not ring OFSTED anonymusly and ask if they conside this acceptable?

Northerner · 07/06/2006 12:12

Have spoken to Ofsted who suggest I write to nursery to complain.

Nursery have an obligation to prevent unwanted visitors. An open door does not do this.

Does any one not agree?

No, it's bang out of order it shouldn't be permitted, simple as that.

Why not have (in addition to the buzzer) a code activated door? That way staff can punch in the code and let themselves in, other visitors must buzz and wait to be let in.

I've just typed a strong letter airing my concerns. Will hand it in tomorrow.
