Juvenile cautions

Does anyone know whether these really are wiped off the "system" when you reach 18? I received a formal police caution when I was 14 (20 years ago nearly) and at the time was told it would disappear from records when i was 18. a couple of years ago I thought about applying to the Probation Service. the application form asked for details of any cautions, including juvenile ones, spent ones, etc. in the end another job came up so i didn't apply. recently though i've been thinking about it again - does anyone know for certain? would they show up on an enhanced CRB for instance? It wasn't too serious a thing (I wasn't on America's Most Wanted (Smile) ) but i'm certainly not proud of it and would feel v hot and a bit sick if it's still sitting on my record.

it will be on your record but will be 'spent' ie. not taken into consideration for further offences etc. trouble is as you have found now. some jobs ask for spent convictions or juvenile one's as they want to know the full picture. you have to tell the truth I'm afraid as if they found out at a later stage you had lied and said you had never ever been cautionned they could sack you and you could actually be prosecuted for 'obtaining property by deception' ie. a job. in my experience the employer will look at every case individually. I have friends who are solicitors who have been cautionned for smoking cannabis for instance who are still allowed to practice. some jobs are super careful though, like teachers or any jobs with kids.

oh jesus, that makes me feel awful. my current job asked for an enhanced CRB. God knows what came back & whether HR know about the caution...i've been with this organisation for 4 years and nothing's ever been said - i'd never even thought about it til now. Sad

it shouldn't have been sent through to them if they were just asking for current details. spent details won't be sent through I don't think. Its just for court purposes ie. if you committed an offence (which obviously you won't!) when your entire record is printed out you can see really old offences but they don't count. I don't think for the purposes of jobs they send through spent details which is why they specifically ask. If they ask you and you lie is what I mean you might get in trouble.

PB,
I was cautioned at 16 for drunk and disordly, and had to have an enhanced check. I told the company who did the check, who wasnt bothered anyway, but when the check came back, it wasnt mentioned.
But, saying that, I was so drunk I cant even remember being cautioned anyway!

wasn't mentioned? Hmm, perhaps enhanced crb's only mention convictions, or maybe include cautions for things like violence or that sort of thing... thanks for info anyway.

Enhanced CRB's have final warnings on them, my friends' son has a final warning and it is on his. As childminders we have to have the whole house hold enhanced CRB. I don't know what will happen when he is 20, as it is supposed to be spent then.
