A challenge for all creative, wordy people out there...

I need to come up with a title for a document I'm writing and am all out of inspiration. So though I'd see if I could pick any brains here. It's about beginnings - the aim of the document is to rally the troops (not literally, just people working in a profession) and say, kind of, here's a fantastic opportunity, see what it can do for you.

Background - it's about a new policy which could do amazing stuff for you and possibly save the day. (Am not writing this for the people who came up with the policy, but am trying to enthuse people on the ground and demonstrate some examples of people making it work for them). But people out there are cynical and justifiably so.

Have tried 'seize the day' which might work but kind of cliched.

Star prize for the best suggestion!

If there is money in it, then use that in the title somehow, because that does really inspire people! can you work in reward somehow? I must say I am now most curious!! Why don't you take a look at the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement for current "in" words?

hunkermunker · 02/06/2006 23:49

Current "in" words always make me want to vomit into my wastbin though.

"going forward"...oh go forward off a big cliff, you management-speak freak (sorry, venting inappropriately on this thread, I feel!) Blush

hunkermunker · 02/06/2006 23:50

wastbin?! wastebin...

nooka · 02/06/2006 23:50

But hunker, that's because she is right! I'd go with the "It's A New Policy, It'll Do Amazing Things And There's Probably Free Money In It For You" one!

hunkermunker · 02/06/2006 23:50

"It's A New Policy, It'll Do Amazing Things And There's Probably Free Money In It For You, Just Don't Mention The Bamboo, I Did Once But I Think I Got Away With It..." Grin

nooka · 02/06/2006 23:52

Is the title to please your boss/sponsor, or to publicise the policy? "In" words good for former, terrible for latter. I quite liked "Essence of Care" a few years back. Sounds like some terrible disinfectant/pee scented perfume!

nooka · 02/06/2006 23:52

rotfl! :o

edam · 02/06/2006 23:54

Oh, with you all the way on management-speak. I loathe 'going forward'. As opposed to what, exactly? Is there any chance in a million that any strategy/policy/company every is going to plan to go backwards? Then why say 'going forwards' at all? Aarrrggh.

I had a boss who was forever going on about "fit for purpose". As in "we must make this fit for purpose" - as if we were actually intending to do otherwise! Of course in practice...

Twiglett · 03/06/2006 00:36

PMSL @ tomorrow belongs to me Grin .. right back to thread

Twiglett · 03/06/2006 00:39

Free Money sounds like a good title to me

How's about Buy This Get Money Free (play on BOGOFs)... can almost see it in a supermarket style flash (yellow on red)

still loving tomorrow belongs to me though

SoupDragon · 03/06/2006 08:46

Edam, sorry - I wasn't being critical! it's just that every initiative they came up with when I was at work had a snappy title and by the time they got into the workplace (IYSWIM) they just sounded twee.

SoupDragon · 03/06/2006 08:47

"Is there any chance in a million that any strategy/policy/company every is going to plan to go backwards?"

Anyone remember "Back to Basics"? :o

edam · 03/06/2006 09:23

Ah, that was the exception that proves the rule! (I know prove = test but I like the generally accepted meaning, OK?).

I do agree with everyone's cynicism but the thing is, the people who commissioned the doc are very passionate, they are actually clinicians, not policy wonks, and quite possibly correct that this is an opportunity to save the NHS and put health professionals in charge (with patients, too) for a change. Last chance to defend it from the corporate sharks who are circling and influencing those in power. If the mangement consultants get their way, we are all doomed. This is a way to send them on their way.

Something to do with "taking charge" then?

edam · 03/06/2006 10:30

Yeah, think so Soupy. But they also want the concept of beginnings as the document outlines what individual health professionals up and down the country have started to do, to encourage the others to play with the concept too.

Take charge and go forward.

Snort!
