while your child spent his/her first full session at playgroup?

It's tomorrow morning for me. I have left DS with other people before now and he's also been going to the creche at the gym for the last 6 months but this feels different somehow.

I think i fancy going for a run but then if they do call me back I'll be all hot and sweaty.
If I go shopping I'll just spend too much money to keep my mind from thinking about what he's up to/is he's happy etc?
If I just come back home I'll raid the fridge for comfort.

What did you do to pass those first few hours?

This hasn't happened to me yet but I think I would take a really long shower and pamper myself. Enjoy a cup of tea with a trashy magazine and listen to the quiet!! No dishes laundry or dusting please!

Going for a run sounds the best to take your mind off it. I've no experience - dd has first morning at nursery tomorrow tho (eek), I'm staying with her this time, BUT I've decided the first time i leave her there I'm going to go out and spend some vouchers a good friend gave me on some decent clothes for going out to work. It's only up the road so I won't feel too weird

Shopping. It was bliss...

Carla · 03/02/2004 21:40

I said sleep, and did it, but No1 pal said she'd shop.

Posey · 03/02/2004 22:22

Went to a posh coffee shop, had a large one (would've been the pub if it'd been an afternoon session) and a BIG cake, and spent an hour reading, not skimming, the paper. Then had a browse in a couple of nice clothes shops.
Must admit, I felt very wierd, kept thinking I'd left something behind
Did this a few times because up until then I'd had very little me-time. Felt I deserved a treat.
Good luck to you both.

Nothing too exciting as I had his 6 month old brother still with me (note to self - plan wider gap between children in next life).

If it is any help I have never yet seen a parent called back to ds's playgroup.... They always seem to have some trick up their sleeve.

I went for a coffee in a lovely grown up cafe and read the paper from beginning to end. Enjoy

fio2 · 04/02/2004 09:45

shopped aswell and i am not that big a shopper, just loved the luxury of being able to do it for the first time in 3 years!

Eowyn · 04/02/2004 09:51

I sat around with an upset tummy all morning, felt kind of justified when they called to say she'd got so upset she'd been sick.
Don't worry, it's only mine that does that, other children are fine & a year later so is she. Yes, it's only taken a year for me to dare leave the house or use the phone line...
Now I paint while she's gone & LOVE it.

I came home and dreamed of the time when DS2 would be away all day at school.......and then few weeks later gave birth to DS3.

Got a while to wait before I can 'listen to the quiet' and read a paper from start to finish or shop without any small people.

Demented · 04/02/2004 19:20

I went shopping, I had DS2 in tow (12 weeks at the time) who slept in his pram, it was weird but bliss at the same time! Enjoy!

hana · 04/02/2004 19:26

so what did you end up doing Mckenzie? Tell us!

bea · 04/02/2004 19:37

first dd nursery session was about 2 hours... so just enough time to sit in a cafe bar and read the paper... absolutely lovely... but like others i felt like i had left something behind... and that starnge feeling of having your hands free when walking (wot? no buggy to push!)... and climbing upstairs (not lifts!).... and the horror of having to carry your shopping by hand (not shove it under the buggy!)

Do enjoy it and try not to worry too much!!! Have fun!
