You could go to Pupuce's Yoga Class on a Saturday

I live in T. Wells but dont get out much. There is a bowling place next to a cinema and a frankie and bennys restraunt at Knights park. Best to book bowling though as it does get busy. The town centre is full of posh restarants. The shopping centre is full of posh shops.
There is the trinity theatre which is fab, im sure that has things going on through the day as well as at night. You can have a meal there too and the food is lovely, food definetly through the day. not sure about night time. the pantiles is lovely to stroll through, nice expensive toy shop there. There is a historic tourist attraction there, at the pantiles called aday at the wells if you would like some history. Oh and the tourist info is there and i think they are a lot more helpful than me!!!!!!!
Oh yes and the assembly hall usually has something good on, although booking is adviced as well.
There is a website called thisis kent, i think that may be helpful.

Make the most of the hotels spa facilities, and if they dont have any rebook to one which does. I could recommend The Spa hotel's beauty rooms. But hope you're in The Hotel du Vin cos the food is fab and the hotel looks wonderful(savoured the food but never stayed)
Otherwise, a bit of retail therapy.... there are some nice shops around.
Have lunch at Carluccios... just up from the train station.... delicious.
Take a stroll in a park... Dunlorlans on the Pembury road(lake and woods etc but undergoing some new development) or Culverden after Carluccios!
Play golf... TW golf club is on the right on the way out of town (East Grinstead direction).

Could recommend masses of things with kiddies in mind, bit of a loss when it comes to adults only.

Hi Noddy, I've worked there for four years and would say one of the best things about TW is the shopping! Charliecat is right the Pantiles is lovely - everything from posh home stuff to nice delis and coffee places to sweet little jewellery stores.

HB is spot on with Hotel du Vin - if you are not staying there it's a lovely place for lunch or a drink in the bar. There are also some more groovy bars down the high street towards the Pantiles and a good Pitcher and Piano opposite the town hall. If you like Italian food, Senor Francos is a lovely resaurant on the High Street - wonderful service too.

Hmmm what else. There's a common which is great for breezy sunday morning walks - literally a minute or so from the town centre, can't miss it.

Day at the Wells fine if you fancy something touristy - the Trinity centre which CC mentioned also has also had lovely art on display whenever I've dropped in.

If you're mobile and fancy a walk further afield Bewl Water is lovely.

Hope that helps - have a lovely time

Try th
e bbc website \link{bbc.co.uk/kent\here - it may have up to the minute stuff.

The countryside around TW is REALLY LOVELY - Penshurst place and Hever Castle are only 20 mins away. In Penshurst there are 2 very good cream teas.
The Pantiles is the historic part of town of TW... worth a walk. TW is fairly small so easily all done on foot (if no kiddies).. Shopping :Hoppers (close to train station) is posher than Fenwick..

I have enjoyed a nice breakfast or coffee at Relish on Camden Road (kind of accross from Next).

I am not a fan of the Hotel du Vin's food myself - i think it's way over priced BUT I can't suggest better in TW... Thackerays is better but WAY over priced.

I have not been to Dunorlan Park recently as it is going through so much work/renovation... probably not worth it if the weather is mucky!

If I can think of something else - I'll post

pupuce · 03/02/2004 21:17

.....hmmmm, so I am in the minority about Hotel du Vin... up to you to decide

Squirmy - A day at the Wells is closed now - isn't it????
Senor Franco is nice but also over priced!

squirmyworm · 03/02/2004 21:37

HI Pupuce - not sure about DaTW - you may well be right and have hardly been near TW since birth of ds so I'm prob way out of date...

Noddy, I'm fascinated as to why you chose TW - not in a critical way, it's a lovely town but I just wondered....

honeybunny · 03/02/2004 21:38

Penshurst Place is shut too Pupuce, but there is an ok walk around the lanes. The shop is open but no food.
Personally think Thackerays is too poncey, H du Vin MUCH nicer. Never had a bad meal in numerous visits.
I 2nd Relish. Great place for food.

miggy · 03/02/2004 21:55

dh got food poisoning last time we went to Hotel du vin. Wrote and told them but they werent bothered. Chocolate pudding with pistachio sorbet is probably worth the risk though!
Is groombridge place open all year-not far, lovely gardens even without children.

pupuce · 04/02/2004 10:26

Is Groombridge open????? It's very kiddy though - I wouldn't go in a week-end for 2 personally as it is very expensive £9????.
You are right HB - Penshurst is shut but Quaintways IS open as I go very regularely for Sunday tea with kids.

Intersting about food poisonning at H du V. We speak French and had been going for a few times when (French) staff told us stories about management.... since then we're not going anymore! We were also dissapointed a few times.

pupuce · 04/02/2004 10:36

BTW - 2 weeks ago the Independent had "the 50 best breaks for xx£" and HdV TW came first - DH and I had to laugh....

noddy5 · 04/02/2004 11:09

We chose TW as it is not too far from us and weve never been there. It looks like the town is all in walking distance from the hotel and so we can just dump the car. Will def walk on the common sunday morning and try out the food thanks for all your advice

Wear a MN badge so any fellow mumnetters can spot you... er that would be me i guess!!!!

charliecat · 04/02/2004 11:34

There is the welly rocks on the common, which is a clump or rocks which im sure will have some history, but anyway on a nice day it is a lovely place to walk, thats on the common and if you ask for directions anyone would know, if you are in one of the posh hotels you may be overlooking there anyway. Everything in T.Wells itself is walkable and i would pop into the tourist place on the pantiles as they will guide you in the best directions! Have a lovely weekend

noddy5 · 04/02/2004 11:58

i dont have a mn badge what are they like?

A spit-up mark on your shoulder usually singles you out - that or the constant frown lines and the perfectly behaved child!!
