All I can think about is "tell the bank" and "don't throw a tantrum"

Check meter readings for both properties so you don't pay extra/someone elses bill.

Lock all windows and doors in the old place and put window keys/back door/shed/fence keys in an easy to find place with details of what they are.

According to df checking postcode credit scores is uber important

Postcode credit scores? I'm not sure I understand? is that to check out the general neighbourhood? It's a cul-de-sac so hopefully should be fine haha Wink

I just keep thinking...tv license, internet, Lovefilm, is a checklist a bit much?

Pretty much, df is obsessed with his credit score for some unknown reason - he just likes watching it build up i think, he's like a spare child!

A checklist is a great idea, either paper, on an app or i use scribless.com for mine i love it :) it lets you tick a box and a line goes through that text it's btilliant and it's free.

ooh thanks, I'll look that up

Yes to checking meter readings at both properties as superbadspeller said - and take a photo of the display on the meter as well as writing the reading down, it's just handy to have irrefutable evidence if you get into any disagreement with the utility providers over the readings (speaking from experience).

I usually keep a Google Document on the go (similar to a Word doc, but online - drive.google.com) when I'm moving. It's my 'to do' list, my schedule, my record of payments made and accounts closed etc, and a list of who will need my new address - all rolled in to one document that I can access quickly and update from anywhere.

My list will usually look something like this:

  • Full address inc. postcode for new property (you'll need this to hand when setting up new utility accounts etc)
  • Cleaners' contact details and arrangements
  • Details of self-drive van rental / man-and-van arrangements
  • Pet care arrangements (I usually send my rabbits to the sitter for a couple of days so they're not under my feet)
  • We have a company locally who delivers boxes, bubble wrap, etc to your door (and they're cheap!) so I like to have their details on hand for last-minute packing emergencies!
  • A list of jobs I need to do before moving day (get on top of laundry, use up frozen food, drop off stuff at charity shop or the tip, etc)
  • Post redirection
  • Give new address to family + friends
  • Doctor
  • Dentist
  • Optician
  • Vet
  • Employer
  • Accountant
  • Council tax (old and new councils)
  • Car insurance
  • Breakdown cover
  • Vehicle registration
  • DVLA (driving licence)
  • House insurance
  • TV licence
  • Banks
  • Loans
  • Land-line phone provider
  • Internet provider
  • Mobile phone provider
  • Gas
  • Electric
  • Water
  • Electoral register
  • Charities / magazine subscriptions / etc (anyone who regularly sends you stuff in the post)
