was looking for some rattles for dd2 on ebay today. found someone selling about 10 little items for £1.95 'buy it now' price. on the first page (where you see all the little gallery pics) it said p&p FREE. I went ahead and bought them straight away. but whe i came to pay i noticed it specified 'postage- pick-up in person only'. where it had 'other options' for postage it said '£6' 1st class royal mail!!!!

Bugger me, i'm not paying £6 postage for a few plastic toys!!! I didn't pay and i emailed the seller saying sorry i'd made a mistake and i wasn't prepared to pay £6 postage as I couldn't pick up in person. Haven't had a reply yet - but she sent an invoice. I've noticed on other items that it will specify 'pick up only' on the first page which seems fair enough, but this seller had said it was 'free' anbd that's just not true, it's NOT free.

So yes i was stupid not to read it more carfeully on the next page but i feel she's in the wrong for the way she advertised it. If she gets arsey with me, what's my come-back?

i have made a similar mistake recently. i was lookign for a large item and used the find items within 10 miles feature.
i saw somethign that was perfect so bid on it.
it wasn't until i won theitem and checked teh details i realised it certainly wasn't within 10 miles.....more like 130!!!

i emailed the lady and explained what had hapened and she was really nice about it. she was willing to disolve the transaction and i just clicked to agree and so she got her listing fee's refunded by ebay so she could re list.

Im glad you have been able to get it sorted without any unecessary hassle

But Leah, up at the top where it displays the current price etc, it says "Postage costs: Free" Underneath it does say "collection in person" but collection isn't postage at all so it's really not clear. IMO the seller was being deliberately misleading. Good job it's all been sorted out anyway.

FrannyandZooey · 27/05/2006 21:00

That's how eBay display it, though, SoupDragon. The seller didn't choose to make it say "postage costs" there, she just filled in the info that it was free to pick up in person, and eBay displayed it under postage costs.

Love the way this is all probably sorted now but we are still bickering on about it :)

SoupDragon · 27/05/2006 21:02

Ah, but she filled in "costs" that were not postage. Collection in person isn't piostge so shouldn't have been filled in there unless it was deliberate.

And yes, I love the continued discussiod :o

SoupDragon · 27/05/2006 21:03

(and of course it's free for collection. I'd be blimmin p-ed off if someone charged me for me to pick something up :o)

FrannyandZooey · 27/05/2006 21:04

??? "collection in person" is an option provided by eBay to provide a price for. You tick a box, to choose which one you want. The seller didn't fill in the words "collection in person", she checked that box and put 'free'.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2006 21:07

and I maintain that she did it deliberately. Deliberately I tell you! \link{http://www.soest.hawaii.edu/expeditions/mariana/images/annsoupy/kids-easter%20soupy%20closeup.jpg\Look closely...} see? See??!

ebay's more trouble than it's worth, IMO.

if the seller isn't a shop that has its own website, i just swerve 'em.

FrannyandZooey · 27/05/2006 21:42

Hee hee....nice try Soupy :)

I think sellers get a lot of stick on MN. It frightens me how many trigger-happy buyers there are. I must have been lucky so far.
