There is a grey door near me and I always think it looks like just the undercoat! Although it is nice in itself. We used Dulux Exterior Satinwood in Midnight Blue on ours and it was lovely!!! Almost Black...

railings is not grey. it is nearly black! arghhhh it is not going to be an undercoat looking colour...it is not not not.

I know, sophable, I understand [soothing emoticon].

Castle gray not grey either-- more a bluish/greenish/french grey. A subtle difference, but important I think. Grin

ooh, Railings is lovely - tis def an off-black not a grey so won't look undercoaty at all. Very sophisticated.

You could even give the railings a coat to match, merely for linguistic serendipity value...

Would eggshell be as hard-wearing as gloss?

F&B describe Downpipe as being a colour appropriate to imitate lead on exterior iron work - I think it sounds really nice.

We found a lovely cherry red for our (Victorian) door, really heavy in linseed oil, takes weeks to dry properly but doesn't crack as easily as modern paints....and when we tried to order it the supplier had stopped trading Sad

Spohable, where are you getting the new glass from? We want to do something similar with the glass about our front door and in the porch.

amazing stained glass shop in wandsworth. they rock. they are not cheap though. he specialises in period work. matches the house and door to the style of stained glass.

thanks badger and darcy! and thanks for soothing orlando!

it' going on right now and i think it is going to be good.

Yikes me too with a green door. Subliminal shaking stevens endorsement perhaps? Do like green though. Not forest or firework but apples, sages, mints. Hmmm.

How is Railings? Sounded promising.

Heathcliffscathy · 26/05/2006 21:20

oh it is fantastic. not black at all. not really grey either. really nice kind of off black type thing. fantastic. looks so much better than it used to. will be amazing with new stained glass.

:)
