I know! I know! In the scheme of things this is rather pathetic! I have just put my first item on Ebay .... and I am really nervous .. I have never done this before ... what happens if my PayPal payment disappears into a black hole

I decided that because I am buying so much - I really ought to try and recoup some of my money !!

Ha Ha

Ooh, you're on a downward spiral now - I put on my first things before Xmas and am now completely obsessed with selling stuff (have made over £400 though!)

It's when you find yourself

a) wandering round your house late at night trying to find more things to sell

b) before the kids have even got all the wrapping paper off on Christmas morning saying "keep the box so we can ebay it in the future!"

that you have to really worry

Thomcat · 29/01/2004 17:18

I must get my ast together and do the same.
That really made me laugh Marthamoo, I know once I get started i'll be the same!

Demented · 29/01/2004 17:22

crystaltips, did you get your iron?

crystaltips · 29/01/2004 17:40

ooooh yes Demented !
And I got £40 off the retail price
SO I am very pleased !
Still can't stand ironing thought

zebra · 29/01/2004 18:12

Is it that soldier set?

crystaltips · 29/01/2004 18:15

ooooh zebra - I'd forgotten about that !!! It'd be a bugger to post though!
You guys have great memories !
I am selling a few of my "designer" clothes that I have grown out of and a few of DD's clothes

That's to start off with !!

So what does everyone sell? My house is full of 'stuff' and I could do with some space but what sort of thing do other people buy?

zebra · 29/01/2004 20:27

I have sold DVDs, travel books & baby bits (Maya wrap, Buggy Board) that we didn't need or didn't get on with.

kiwisbird · 29/01/2004 20:29

I have sold and bought TONS! try not to get too obsessed with watching the price
Good luck!
I am obsessed and addicted, it hides from DH the amount I buy...

zebra · 29/01/2004 20:29

Oh, and also sold sea sickness bands. Have bought baby bike seat, baby back pack, lycra sun suit and ERTL trains.

suedonim · 29/01/2004 21:35

Thanks, that's given me some ideas!

stupidgirl · 29/01/2004 21:50

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, or whether it's appropriate or not, so I'll whisper... there is another site...(www.ebid.co.uk) which is just like Ebay but you don't have to pay listing fees. You pay a one off fee for registering (£2.50 - i THINK you need a credit card, but have a look because I'm not sure) and then no fees for buying and selling. I'm not getting commission or anything (honest) I just found Ebay expensive when you list things which don't sell. The only problem is that Ebid is quite small still, so you have a smaller audience...

pie · 30/01/2004 18:01

Stupidgirl - do you post on the forums at ebid?

GenT · 30/01/2004 18:17

I went to that site stupidgirl suggested and there are several things, but nobody seems to be bidding. Did a search for several items I would find on ebay but this site didn't have any of those. I think I like ebay's format.

This week I sold my first 4 items, which is fantastic and I am not acceting Paypal on this ID. Trying to eliminate these extra charges.

HiddenSpirit · 30/01/2004 18:36

I'm a big addict of ebay

I have bought more than I've sold, but like the others, it's just been things I've had about the house that the kids have grown out of/no longer use ect.

Charliecat seems to think I should take it up as a full time job, and had thought about getting into the world of selling ex catalogue stock, but I have no idea where people actually buy the ex catalogue stock If anyone knows where I can buy stock, feel free to gimme a shout

I've bought everything from a jacket for 1p to a video camera (which I am now selling lol)

Suedonim, you can basically sell anything on ebay (although certain items are not allowed), some people even list really silly stuff, like a piece of string! So I dare say the "stuff" you have lying around has a fair chance of selling

tamum · 30/01/2004 18:47

I agree about ebid, there was a lot of hype about it a while back. I can certainly see the appeal for sellers, but I did the same- searched for the kind of things I buy on eBay, found nothing, and never went back. If a lot of buyers do this it's going to be hard to ever get going. Maybe things sell well in certain categories though, and it just doesn't have the breadth of eBay
(pie- 157 and counting!!!)

pie · 31/01/2004 08:52

tamum...193

charliecat · 31/01/2004 09:05

Im on 218, I love it and my house is clearer for it, only last night i brought a car seat for dd2 on Ebay. Its just too addictive. And as im walking round shops, just as i go to buy something I think to myself Nope ill get it off ebay!

pie · 31/01/2004 09:07

looks like we have a new ebay leader!

Carla · 31/01/2004 09:25

I've only ever bought one thing off ebay - a grown up tricycle, and in one sweaty moment realised I'd bid for two and on one I had a placed a maximum bid of £4000! Phew!

If you want to flogg stuff though, do you need a digital camera?

Tigerlilies · 31/01/2004 09:27

You do need a digital camera. Lots of people won't buy unless theres a photo.

Carla · 31/01/2004 09:34

Can we have a look at them Crystaltips????

HiddenSpirit · 31/01/2004 11:33

I'm not far in front of Charliecat with 234

She is catching up fast though

kiwisbird · 31/01/2004 11:44
