Mould/mildew on wipeable feeding chair seat

Can anyone help out? I am feeling so miserable about this.

I am supposed to be selling s lot of my baby stuff at a sale tomorrow. One of my best items is a feeding chair that was in pristine condition. Just got it down from the hayloft over our garage and discovered the wipeable seat insert is covered in mould/mildew.

I have tried Dettox Mould and Mildew remover, Milton, Handwash detergent, Vanish soap bar, and it is now sitting in a bleach solution - nothing is shifting the stuff.

Any other ideas before I throw a perfectly good feeding chair in the bin for the sake of one seat insert? Angry Sad

What a nuisance DG. Can you not sell it without the seat insert? It may still be of use to someone. (replaceable plastic seat inserts are avail in Mothercare if the new owner wants to buy one. Just a thought....

Cillit Bang Grin

Honestly that should shift it.

DumbledoresGirl · 12/05/2006 19:40

Ah now I do have cillit bang.. never found it did anything it is advertised as doing, but anything is worth a try....

Have you tried leaving neat Bleach on it too?

IME the mould and mildew things never work.

DumbledoresGirl · 12/05/2006 19:53

TBH the Cillit Bang isn't doing anything either. I think the marks that are left are the stain left behind in the fabric, not the actual mildew itself. Does that makes sense?

soak in a strong bleach solution overnight

plummymummy · 12/05/2006 19:55

Also try boiling hot water on one of those wire scourer things after you have soaked in neat bleach and give it a good scrub.

Nbg · 12/05/2006 19:56

Yep, I think bleach is the only way forward.

Leave it on and scrub off with a scourer or something similar.

DumbledoresGirl · 12/05/2006 20:01

How strong is a strong bleach solution? And will it not just take all the colour out? Or can I rest easy on that given that everything I have thrown at it so far has not removed any colour?

Normal household bleach should do it but when I say leave it, just for a few minutes. I wouldn't like to leave it over night.

I have a stupid household helper book thing, let me have a look in that and see if it mentions this.

DumbledoresGirl · 12/05/2006 20:05

But neat?

I recently cleaned a similar cover by putting it in a bucket covered in water and about 1/2 litre of bleach

It didn't effect the colour but I figured that it was better to be faded without mould than with a lovely colour and mould!

magnolia1 · 12/05/2006 20:08

I have the same problem with my buggy Sad
Will watch with interest coz everything I have tried hasn't worked!

Nbg · 12/05/2006 20:10

If your not sure try a solution with water as hot as you can manage or just put it straight on and wipe off.

Is it one of those seats that have like a pvc covering. I guess so if it's wipeable.
I wouldn't have any worries about using bleach on it.

morningpaper · 12/05/2006 20:14

If you use hot water with bleach do it outside unless you want your house to smell like the local council swimming pool

DumbledoresGirl · 12/05/2006 20:18

Yes I am not sure exactly what it is - the label just says polyester and cotton and you are not supposed to immerse it in water (ha ha) but it has a sort of finish to it that is supposed to make it wipeable.

Have you tried it?

DumbledoresGirl · 12/05/2006 21:01

Yes, no difference I am afraid. Sad

DumbledoresGirl · 12/05/2006 21:25

Nope watching Rocky Horror with dh on ITV3. We saw a live performance of it for our first date so it is slushy romance stuff for us.

Nbg · 12/05/2006 21:29

Gerroff MN then! Grin

Two last resorts according to the stupid 1001 home hints book.
Turps and white vinegar.

DumbledoresGirl · 12/05/2006 21:59

No MN was a dim and distant thing of the future in those days...

Thanks Nbg, I am only here during the breaks! I will give the vinegar a go tomorrow. Not sure if we have any turps..... Wouldn't it make it stink?

OP posts:
Nbg · 12/05/2006 22:02

Yes Turps would make it smell horrid.
Theres got to be something that will shift it.

naswm · 12/05/2006 22:22
