I'm just sitting here listen to the soulful tunes of Al Green - the sun's shining, I'm feeling sleep deprived and his soothing voice is making me feel like having a kip!

What music do you listen to when you want to relax?

Were only in it for the money by Frank Zappa is my fave "chill out" thngy at the mo, as is Camembert Electrique by the planet Gong.

But I'm weird.

I do quite like a bit of ska in the summer too though

The Cult, Chili Peppers, Green Day or 80s cr*p. Want to get some Nina Simone too.

zephyrcat · 12/05/2006 11:39

Iquite like Cat Stevens in the summer too...and guns n roses, but the old stuff

You can't beat listening to Sunny Afternoon by the Kinks on a lovely summers day, good in the car too.

I took my ipod to the shopping mall for the first time ever last night (there is no late night shopping here except for Thursdays, no Sunday trading and everything shuts at 5.30). I came away soooooooooo chilled, thanks to Juliette Lewis and The Specials instead of the usual Phil Collins and other unmentionable MOR stuff that the crap supermarket blars out. Don't know why I've never done it before.

I'm with ggirl, classical for me for chilling - or ambient stuff like the Cocteau Twins or Sigur Ros.
Impossible not to hear Yo Yo Ma play the Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello, or any recording of the Well-Tempered Klavier, both by Bach, and not feel calm and relaxed.
Also the spooky Jan Garbarek/Hilliard Ensemble crossover thingy Officium.

i tend to listen to Ozric Tentacles, Banco De Gaia or folky/acoustic stuff like Nick Drake. have just bought a fab album by a girl called Bill Jones.....really liking my folk music at the moment.

fairyfly · 12/05/2006 12:33

Ozric Tentacles, not heard them for ages, forgot they existed.

joelalie · 12/05/2006 12:35

Mozart, Bach, Rachmaninov, Vaughan Williams..... well anything classical really. used to listen to other stuff but I now find it stresses me out too much. I listen to DH's stuff from time to time but after 30 minutes or so I start to grind my teeth. Getting too old I guess Grin.

I love a bit of classical aswell - find I'm listening to more the older I get!

I love Saint Saens Sonata for Oboe and Piano - very haunting (and brings back memories as I played it in one of my exams years ago). I love some of Chopin's piano works and Schubert and Mozart.

Some of the lunchtime proms look really good if any of you classical lovers work in London.
