Are you laughing at me now? I did NOT laugh at you when you outed yourself...Sad

I am off to bed as dd2 is finally drifting off. Perhaps I will wake to discover the benefits of retail therapy...

Shock!
I haven't been for about 5 years, but used to go purely for the shopping. That was pre children, pre mortgage of course.

Is Canal St Jean still there?I had some nice clothes from there a while back. Also cameras were a very good buy too.I used to get my perfume from Bloomingdales as it was much cheaper than the UK.I went to Century21 (discounty place on Vestry Street) pre 9/11 & wasn't impressed, but other people rave about it.Don't know if it still there.

Have you managed to loose your shopping gene?I have since dd2 was born, but the chance of shopping in New York would probably cure me.I dream about going there again.

4 1/2 months in NY and no shopping?
I love Banana Republic and Bloomingdales of course

Cadmum · 11/05/2006 07:41

I think my shopping gene may be lost. Can it be found again?

I have been to Canal Street (with SIL) but was less than impressed.

Century 21 is still there but very crowded and over-priced.

I would hate to leave here and have to admit that I have not shopped. I hope there is a cure for whatever ails me...

Cadmum · 11/05/2006 14:39

mckenzie: Oh yes please!

LTH: I shall let you away with it because of your condition. Grin

Are you mad......I visit a lot and I buy super cheap kids clothes at Conway on 34th st, between 8th and 9th. I love Old Navy for me and kids, great shoe shops opposite Conways, Gap (for my boring side), cellar at Macys for funky cook stuff, Pottery Barn for cliche'd American home look, Eddie Bauer for outdoor kit and great soft suitcases, any manicure place for perfect toes and hands.......Then down to the Village for wandering. I like Broadway at around 6/7th Street (there used to be a Habitat there, just for ID). Victoria's secrets for knickers.....Soho for expensive arty things and quite cool UK clothes at cheaper prices. Century 21 if you can be bothered......but men's ties and undies are good there.

Houlihans to stop for Chicken Fingers and honey/mustard sauce.......

Is that enough?????

Hi Cadmum

I'd definitely get shopping now - Vienna is not known for it's shops. Wink

PinkKerPlink · 11/05/2006 15:02

does anyone else watch project runway?

Cadmum · 11/05/2006 15:29

I think the problem may be that being from Canada the only store that we don't have is Macy's...
We have Old Navy, The Gap, Banana Republic, Children's Place etc etc right in Ottawa.

Must learn to bargain hunt, right?

have you looked into any of the outlet shopping centers that arent too far from NYC? (if you google them, they should turn up.)

lots of brand name stores in one stripmall like area! :)

the village has a lot of nice little shops:) my favourite place to be in the city:) (i was lucky enough to be born and raised a 2 hour drive from nyc, so was there a lot as a teenager!):)
