Our school is holding one next month, getting hassled into doing something. So far we have anything from a couple of hours babysitting through to spending the day with a gamekeeper!

What would you promise if put under pressure?

erm... cook a meal? cook a big cake?

starlover · 09/05/2006 15:45

is there anythihng you could do related to your job or your dh's job?

ie, my dp would be able to create someone a website...

MerlinsBeard · 09/05/2006 16:00

i would promise to not do anything. cheeky buggers putting pressure on imo

yeahinaminute · 09/05/2006 16:01

Yeah - our school hold a promises auction from time - to - time and we're lucky as we own a commercial cleaning company so I usually bung in a free window/carpet/conservatory clean...
But last year DH and I offered ourselves as cook and butler for an evening ... we made £175 ( Mad fools!!) but it was a brilliant evening. I cooked for 8 at the bidders house and DH dressed in an old tail suit ( he's 6'5'' and the trousers came to just on his calves!)and basically became comedy butler - I dressed up as a Mrs Miggins type hag - but it was fun!!
Another friend offered to do mending and sewing and that was snapped up

Far too busy for all this really, can not imagine spending ANY time with random dull people.
Will not cook a cake.
What was that film that RRedford slept with babe for £1million?

I remember a few from the last one I went to:
(may be v high effort depending on your situation)
Homebaked cookies every breaktime for a week for a child at the school. Guess you could adapt to homemade organic packed lunches for a week etc.
Homebaked cake
Ride on back of someone's motorbike/in someone's classic car
Obscure sport taster session (fencing v popular with small boys)
'Takeaway' curry ie someone cooks it, boxes it and brings it to you!
Ironing
Christmas card writing / present wrapping

I'd offer to design a logo for a small business, someone's website etc

I'd bake some bread. You can do a batch and have some for you and some for them for little extra effort.

we did one of these at uni ( i actually just suggested a promise auction on a fundraisng thread...how starnge)

we had lots of odd jobs like mowing lawns, cleanign windows, putting up shelves, weeks worth of dishwashing that sort of thing.

if you dont really want to invest too much time then i would offer something that you already do. what about offering a collection and return service of the winners children? you could basicly do the school run instead of the winner. i know i would pay a LOT for that.

geogteach · 10/05/2006 19:17

At ours we had someone offer to bring you fresh bread every morning for a week to the playground - pretty doable if you have a bread maker.
Less do able but good money raisers the head provided a years use of an on site parking space (parents are not allowed to bring cars on site)which someone paid £400 for! We also have a 'ready steady cook' chef as a parent who offered to cook and wash up a meal for 8 which raised loads.

zippitippitoes · 10/05/2006 19:23

I offered pinhole house portrait photos at one and the purchaser paid 75.00 for two photos Blush Cue lots of pressure to do them really well !
