So, what do they ask?? Anyone know?
Ive been suffering with SPD for almost a year now, and the pain had radiated all over, to my back, neck, and obviously my legs. Im in constant pain.
My ds is in playgroup three times a week, and even though it is only 5minutes walk away from me, i cant not walk there, so it is in the drive. As i have a dd (7mths), the pain gets worse with all the lifting etc. im suffering with PND and even though i do seem to be on the mend, i have been having setbaks (when the pains worse, my depression is worse iyswim).
I was volunteering for Homestart, and through the course, thought, they can help me!
So, they are now coming on tuesday, and worried about what they will say, what they will think etc. Someone please say im being stupid!
Thanks

Have you seen an osteopath? It must be excruciating living with that much pain!

Carmenere · 07/05/2006 12:23

I havent, cant really afford it tbh, seeing a physio, been with her for months now, doesnt seem to be really helping me at all.

Jofeb04, I can't help with the SPD but I know there have been a lot of discussions about it here, look under health, there may be something useful. Homestart want to help you, they don't expect you to have prepared or anything, I'm sure it'll be fine if you're honest and tell them how you're feeling.

I just wanted to add, it will no doubt go against your natural pride, but don't try to show them how you are coping - don't be afraid to tell them it like it is, because they need to know the full situation in order to give you the best level of help.

Maybe it would be good to describe to them a REALLY bad day - what it's like when you really struggle. Then they have a full picture.

Good luck!

they're there to help, jo, so let 'em!

i had PND, too, twice. i'm still on ADs. but when i get off and my kids get old, i'd LOVE to be a homestart volunteer.

jofeb04 · 07/05/2006 15:15

Thx for the advice.
I know i need help, but im not the kind of person to ask for it iykwim.
But, i have, so i suppose i should have it. If they think i need it, then i cant really complain, can i!

Hi Jo what area do you live in? When the surestart came to me i lived in south Wales and they were very helpful and helped me through a very rough first few weeks after having my second son Smile

jofeb04 · 07/05/2006 15:35

I used to be an organiser for Homestart and do the family assessments.

We used to ask what kind of help you'd like (ie someone to chat to / someone to come out with you and kids...), if there's any dangers in the house (they need to for H&Safety reasons, for example a drunk ex, though I know some naughty Organuisers skip it). Most imporatntly though they want to get to know you- hobbies, dislikes, that sort of thing. The skill is in matching you with someone you'll get on with, and those are the things that matter.

And please don't worry about what they'll think of you. My referrals varied from people like yourself to PND to holding off Social Services intervention. They're gonna love you!

Hey I', in caerleon Grin

Used to work for them in Somerset though

pepperpots · 07/05/2006 15:39

I used to live in cardiff Smile have moved now though i'm now up in the valleys Grin have yet to speak to anyone yet. It's really hard to tell pepole you have depression most of the mums i have met who haven't been through it back off from you Sad I suffered spd with both my pg but only in the last few weeks and first six weeks while my body adjusted. Although every now and again it starts to ache, it i nothing compared to what it was like. Have you seen a physio?

jofeb04 · 07/05/2006 15:40

Ive been to Caerleon for many nights out before the dc were born!!!
