I have left things till the last minute and I'm now panicing.
I've managed to book a hall that includes a huge bouncy castle at the local leisure centre. It's booked for the 14th May.
The problem I have is that I can only book it for 1 1/2 hours and they've made it clear that you need to be out at the given time so they can set up for the next party. Do I put on a buffet or should I do party boxes with food enclosed due to the time constarints? Would you as a parent be peeved if there was no food for you at a party?

I would just do snacks like crisps etc or something really easy like hotdogs (just need hot water to heat them and rolls and sauce); not too much or kids might puke! put bday cake in goody bags at end.
They will need drinks more than food and hopefully will be more concerned with playing than eating.

Hi I had a party for my dd 2rd birthday and I hired a bouncy castle. It was at 4pm and it was only for 1.5 hours. I didnt put on food and no one complained. I put a note in with the invites to say that this was the only time I could get and wouldnt be providing food as a result please could everyone feed their own children, No one complained and no one asked for food. I had plenty of drinks though.

I would do lunch boxes.

Small sandwich, box of raisins, carton of juice, Babybel cheese, packet of mini Pringles and peice of cake.

dinny · 04/05/2006 22:09

sorry to hijack but whewre do you get lunchboxes to out your own food in?

dinny · 04/05/2006 22:10

at short notice!

JanH · 04/05/2006 22:13

Cake boxes from local cake shop are fine - they come in 3 different sizes usually, about 5p each?

WestCountryLass · 04/05/2006 22:13

You can usually get them in places that do partywares or online:

Dinny type in birthday party supplies into google and click on uk and voila. You can even get next day delivery at a hike of a price though.

Thanks for replys I think I'm swaying for the lunchbox idea with plenty of drinks.

Is there a park nearby that you can have a picnic afterwards? Make up the food boxes and take a big blanket. Fingers crossed for a sunny day. Smile

I'd be peeved if there was no food for me at a party if it took place at a meal time and I had no choice but to stay there. (I went to one once that had insufficient food and soft drinks for the grown-ups but plenty of wine - very bad combination!) Otherwise I wouldn't be too bothered.

If it's not at a meal time, I think singyswife's idea of not providing any food at all is a good one. Drinks would be advisable though if it's an active party in a warm place.
