I am seeking to rent privately as I have been told I basically have no hope of getting a council place

Q - Assuming your home is unfurnished are you allowed to decorate it or has the landlord done that already???

I am very confused atm!

We aren't allowed to do anything to ours! It drives me mad as i'm one of these who love loads of piccies up etc and can't!!!
We even have checks to make sure the lawn is regulalry mowed!

Pol26 - that is exactly the type of landlord I do NOT want!!!! You never get hassle like that if you rent from the council!

Custardo - where we live now is tied accomodation to our employment. It is also miles away from schools and shops. I dont drive so without dh who does I am in a pickle.

Hence I have to move. - SOOOOOOOOON

oh i see - ok so you dont own your property at the moment - right.

apply to council anyway, any medical conditions?

i know i know, get your current landlord to give you a "notice to quit" and give with your application
anything medical could help you
family contacts - support help with children in the area ( especially in this time of great need ( sob sob) have you got depression? do you suddenly want it? go to doctors - the stress ( sob sob)

you have to look at the short term to get at a good good long term.

if your not on the council list - your never going to get anything

do not accept an offer from the council of somehere you do not want to live. - you will then be suitably housed.

ask about "choice based lettings" new govt buzz term - ask for their policy - it basically says you have a right to chose - in practise its bollocks but they may crap themselves.

i would start looking round at decent accomodation in private rented that is too small - but perfectly clean and in denent enough area - an area perhaps that you want to move into - perhaps you can make schools contacts - kids shouldnt have to move schools....

thing is you will not be adequatley housed ( but it will be better than a bloody b&b - therefore you will remain high on the list.

see what i mean?

play the system girl - its wrong but everyone else does it.

Custy - You have so absolutely made my day with that post

Do you have depression? Do you suddenly want it (sob sob)

ROFL - so funny!

Its good advice though and Im going to try! Time will show whether I achieve it!

We have a fantastic landlord (and landlady). They have no problem whatsoever with what we want to do. DH even put new locks on the doors and I tried to hand copies of the new keys to the landlord - to be told, I don't want those, or need them, its your home.
However, I would be very careful, I do realise that we are extremely lucky. When we were househunting, we went to look at one house and I asked the owners of they would mind us putting up a few pictures - the woman almost had apoplexy and was practically screaming "what, what...pictures, what kind of pictures? do you mean art work on my lovely walls - whats wrong with plain, don't like pictures, like white sterile walls" Shock Needless to say - we didn't rent that one!!!

busybusybee be very careful where the council are concerened and moving in to private rental we used to live in a 2 bedroom flat there was me dp and dd and dps 2 sons from previous marriage and we had our ds on the way we were on the council list but nothing was coming up even though we had a priority card so we had no option but to go to a privatly rented house untill we got a council place they offered us a place 2 weeks ago we had to give them our new address and the immediatly took the house back off of us because we had moved even though we are struggling to afford to live her we are now at the bottom of the council list so we are going to have to struggle for at least another 2 years. so if agt all possible dont move in to private rental because our experiance is as soon as we didn the council was there hands of you.
