Would be quite happy to see people being dragged out of their cars and flogged for not strapping their children in adequately or at all to be honest.

Did stop a super chavvy car a while ago (lowered with big exhaust and wheel caps which had lights in them and revolved in reverse - it was shocking!!) and asked the mother in the front if she could not have spent the money she did on the wheel caps on a car seat for the baby she had on her lap!! - I then had to run like hell because her chavvy boyfriend got out and looked like he was going to hit me - mind you I could imagine they told all of their chavvy mates and I hope they got slack back!!

I wish manufacturers would make comfortable yet affordable car seats and boosters. I wouldn't like to sit on that hard, plastic mould.

Twinkie1 · 03/05/2006 13:42

They do it because it is the best thing to protect your body in an impact - they are padded and I presume aren't that uncomfortable or kids would scream the whole time they were in them - mind yuo even if my kids did they would still be strapped in them!!

My DD(8yo) always sits on a booster seat/chair, as does any other child who gets in my car.

Got very dirty looks from her friend who came to play at the weekend, the friend was not happy being made to sit on a 'baby' seat. She did in the end when I told her that was the only way she was coming to our house to play with DD! Can't stand it when people don't strap their kids in properly and safely!

Is it true that there is an exclusion when you can't fit the extra in your car? We have ds1 and 2 on booster seats with ds3 in a proper car seat but can't fit a backed one in instead.

And yes I know Angry at me but we simply do not have ash dfor a new car, he is always strapped into the booster and is over five already.

If anyoe knows a narrow booster seat?

serenity · 03/05/2006 14:42

You don't have to have the third seat if you can't fit them in your car, peachyclair.

Not that I'm at all defensive..... Wink

thanks

ok im going to sound really dumb here but....what do tehy eman by child restraints?

My Ds has a booster seat and i clip the normal seatbelt into the clip on the side so it doesnt cut into his neck. is that not good enough then?

where do you buy these things from if not and how much are they?

I dont think its a bad thing that this has been made law now but i do feel it has not been highly publicised.

LIZS · 03/05/2006 20:57

They mean a safety seat or booster appropriate for child's age /development so for an over 6 a booster cushion with clip is probably fine.
